Cruising with Hurricanes

Sail Date: September 10, 2006

Room Type: Inside

The Majesty is an older ship, and fairly short. It cannot handle rough seas, which a trip to Bermuda from Boston will likely encounter. Crusing during hurricane season is a risk, and a real one on this ship. We missed a day of our time in Bermuda due to Hurricane Florence. If you have been on a larger ship with many activity and entertainment options, this one can be a disappointment. If you are looking to get to Bermuda in an affordable manor and you don't have expectations of opulence, this ship is for you. We did not bring our kids on this trip, but I would think they would get very bored with this cruise and this ship. I don't recommend this ship/cruise for kids.

Pros: Bermuda is a must visit island and freestyle cruising is a great option - hurricane season is a real threat to be considered

Cons: low cost cruises don't have the best food and entertainment and use older ships

Ship Quality
Older ship with minimum amenities. Feels very small.
Food and Dining
This ship has restaurants that you can utilize if you pay a supplement. The Le Bistro better than others offered on board.
Entertainment
Entertainment was not great. The biggest issue is the lack of options for activities. Don't expect ice skating and surfing because you get ping pong and bingo only. The pools are small
Children's Programs
Did not use, but we were glad we did not bring our kids along because there were not many options for them.
Cabin / Stateroom
State room was bigger than expected, given the size of the ship - no complaints.
Service and Staff
Freestyle crusing means that tipping is done with a daily charge and then divided among the service staff. They get a fair deal, and the rate is evenly charged among all passengers - no cheating possible. This is good for the cruiser. Fortunately, the staff still try to go above and beyond even though they have a gauranteed tip.
St. George's, Bermuda
This is a fantasic historical port. Don't expect nightlife, but go here for day time exploration and water sports
Don't Miss: Tobacco Bay
