Freestyle Cruising - NCL Majesty - BEST

Sail Date: May 20, 2007

Reviewed: 9 years ago

Traveled As: Couple

Room Type: Inside

Freestyle cruising is the way to go. This was our first cruise and it was as close to perfect as it gets. Even though our boat was a day late getting into port (weather problem) and it meant our boat could not leave on Sunday as planned, we were disappointed at first, but the excellent service, clean ship, etc. more than made up for it. We took out on Monday. Leave from Boston if you are going to Bermuda, the folks from Massachusetts and surrounding areas that take that cruise are super! (We drove from Illinois to catch the ship out of Boston)

Pros: Relaxing, Very clean ship, nice rooms, wonderful service, quick check-in & disembarking,

Cons: Same food always on buffet

Recommends Norwegian Majesty (RETIRED)? Yes!

Entertainment
The staff try hard; comedian was funny. Lots of repeats to entertainment; we enjoyed it overall. Gameshows were fun; there's Bingo & the Casino if you like those things. Many chances to dance if you like 50's - 70's music.
Food and Dining
With freestyle you can eat alone or with other couples (we did both and enjoyed both experiences). If you want to eat in formal attire, then go ahead; if you want to wear shorts, then go up to the top deck and eat the BBQ or buffet. Do both if you want in the same night. Long pants or Bermuda shorts will get you into the formal dining rooms; just be respectful if it is optional dress-up night.
Cabin / Stateroom
Nice big room at great price through . We were on level 3; I would recommend 3 or 4 as they are quiet, near the dining rooms on 5 and there is nothing but rooms on 3 or 4 so if you want super quiet without people walking around, then 3 or 4 is best. Plus when you go into ports, level 2 is where you go to get off of the boat. We loved the mints on our beds at night and the animals they made for us from the towels. Super clean room, good room steward service. Just nice.
Service and Staff
Staff are from all around the world, so it is hard sometimes to understand what staff are asking or telling you sometimes. They try very hard to make you feel welcome on the Majesty. No complaints.
Ship Quality
It was a smooth ride; no sea sickness here and I usually get car sick, so that really says something. You feel the boat a little, but it is not bad. The Majesty is an older ship but VERY clean and well maintained. The top deck is where the two small pools and jacuzzies are located; they are small and always in use. We got a super deal through a week before the cruise left and loved our room. Big twin beds that you can put together to make a queen size bed out of - the room stewards always made cute animals out of our towels in the evenings - You will LOVE their creativity!
St. George's, Bermuda
Nice island; definately research it before you go. The Majesty stays there several days so you should have time to see the whole island. We rented mopeds and drove around the island. The ship does not like guest to do this because it is dangerous and I would only recommend if you already own a bike and have considerable riding experience. You have to ride on the left hand side of the road and the roads are narrow, without many traffic "rules"; confusing for Americans. We are a short couple so we could ride on one scooter; ask around for a good price on a scooter; big discounts if you ask.
Don't Miss: South Side beaches such as Horseshoe.
