Review summary

We had a wonderful time and were so glad to be back to cruising. We felt comfortable with the Norwegian's efforts to minimize risk of covid outbreaks including testing, vaccination mandates and additional cleaning. We wore our masks while in common spaces and even felt safer. See you next time.

Embarkation

Very easy and organized even with Covid testing.

Ship experiences

Food and Dining

5 out of 5
Food was wonderful throughout the cruise. Service was exceptional.

The District Brew House

5 out of 5

I think if we ever go on another cruise that doesn't have a tap house we will be disappointed. The beer selection on the other ships is so terribly lacking that we just end up drinking wine or other cocktails. We spent more time in the brewhouse than probably any other location on the ship and tried almost every beer they had on tap. So nice to have craft brews to choose from. Several great IPA's, Ambers, pale ales and a particularly delicious cream ale. They didn't have any stouts or porters on tap curing this cruise, but they have plenty of bottled beers to choose from also. The service here was exceptional. Ryan and Edward were very knowledgeable bartenders. We enjoyed Manuel at the piano on several occasions too.

Observation Lounge

5 out of 5

This was definitely one of our favorite spots on the ship. We visited every day. There are chaise loungers in the front row to spend a relaxing day reading a book with a few rows of tables that were perfect for playing games. If you were looking for a little more privacy/distancing there were always plenty of open tables, sofas and chairs along the sides to get the perfect spot. The view is amazing and love that it is so bright and spacious. I will definitely miss this on future cruises on the ships that don't have this feature.

Cagney's Steakhouse

5 out of 5

The tuna tartar appetizer was a great way to start a fantasic meal. My ribeye was cooked perfectly and I tood advantage of the wine expert suggestions for this meal. He picked a nice merlot to compliment my steak and it did not disappoint. Nothing but compliments for Cagney's.

Ocean Blue

3 out of 5

We were a little disappointed that we weren't wowed by Ocean blue. That being said, the food was still great, it was just seemed about the same quality as seafood dishes in the main dining room to me. That is saying more good about the main dining room than negative about ocean blue. In the future I will save my specialty dining package on other venues and just get my seafood in the main dining room.

American Diner

4 out of 5

This was the first restaurant we visited before leaving port. The lobster sliders were great, but my favorite thing about this experience was the banana chocolate milkshake. So yummy.

Food Republic

4 out of 5

We visited this location for lunch and had a few sushi rolls. They were very tasty. Not a huge variety of rolls to choose from, but plenty. There were lots of other delicious dishes on the menu that we didn't have a chance to try.

Teppanyaki

5 out of 5

Always a favorite.

The Local Bar & Grill

4 out of 5

Fast service. I enjoyed the wings and the sheperd's pie potato skins were amazing.

Onboard Activities

5 out of 5
We tried the speedway, VR arcade, laser tag, putt-putt golf, ping pong and outdoor chess. We had a blast, never a dull moment. See venue reviews.

Entertainment

4 out of 5
The BeatlesStory was terrific. Tip: the shows go in order from Meet the Beatles to Abbey Road. We wish we could have seen them all. It would have been better if they had advertised this a little better and also published the whole week's schedule at the beginning of the cruise so that we could have planned a but better, but we were thankful to see what we did. The performers in Footloose did a great job, I just think it isn't my thing.

Galaxy Pavilion

5 out of 5

What an exciting experience! This was my first VR arcade. We paid for the hour package and it was plenty of time to try several different machines. Our cruise was only about 40% occupancy with lower that normal % of kids, so the hour might not be anough time on a normal cruise if there are lines. We loved the 7D and Jurassic Park. We also walked the plank, did hang gliding, the hot wheel track and a few others. By the end I did experience some motion sickness, so beware if you are susceptible to that.

Laser Tag

So fun! First time I tried this. I was surprised at how much I enjoyed it.

Service and Staff

5 out of 5
Service was exceptional this time. Even better than normal. Everyone was glad to be back to sailing, workers and cruisers. The waiters and bartenders were very attentive. Our steward was very friendly and thorough.

Ship Quality

5 out of 5
The ship was constantly being cleaned with extra care due to covid and that is much appreciated. We LOVE, LOVE this ship. The Observation Lounge, The District Brewhouse and the fact that the smoking section in the casino is behind glass are my top 3 things that this ship has that not all ships have. Maybe someday there will be totally non-smoking ships.

Cabin / Stateroom

4 out of 5
The vibration from the ship is a bit worse in the aft balconies on this ship than we have experienced in the past, however, we were able to remedy the associated noise by securing loose items including the bathroom door and by wearing ear plugs at night. We recommend Macks soft ear plugs. They are super comfy and effective. To be fair, we ususally stay on a lower deck and this time we were on 15, so that may have been the difference.

Ship tip

Observation deck, visit it early, visit it often.

Ports of call

Costa Maya (Mahahual), Mexico

Love the Mayan Wellness Retreat. It is a bargain. I plan to do this or at least get a massage next time too.

Catch and release deep sea fishing. Everyone caught a fish, even me.

We were deck 9 forward and the vibration was horrible! Everything else was phenomenal but this vibration was insane lol. It isn't deterring us from booking the same cabin or ship again though lol

I would think being lower would be worse for vibration .🤔
