Amazing cruise to Alaska by MJGiebels

Sail date: / Traveled as: Family (older children)
Ship: Norwegian Jewel / Destination: Alaska - Gulf of Alaska

We had an amazing time on the NCL Jewel! The crew was AMAZING, over the top friendly and warm. The ship, the sights, the excursions, the entire experience was fantastic! We are already booked on another one!

Last time with Norwegian by sfdb93

Sail date: / Traveled as: Singles/Friends
Ship: Norwegian Jewel / Destination: Alaska - Inside Passage

A very underwhelming cruise compared to the others that I have been on. Alaska, Canada and Seattle were all beautiful, it was strictly the experience on board the ship that was bad. I decided to try NCL again after bad experiences on the Star in 2013, but after a repeat of the same issues I had in 2013 this time, I will cruise with Carnival and Holland America in the future, never NCL again.

Amazing!!! by RhondaKC

Sail date: / Traveled as: Large Group
Ship: Norwegian Jewel / Destination: Alaska - Inside Passage

My husband and I went on the same cruise 2 years ago. We loved it so much we returned again this year with my sister, her husband and another couple who are our very best friends. They all helped us celebrate our 35th wedding anniversary.  It was an amazing trip and the staff of Norwegian were wonderful!!!  Everyone enjoyed the trip and no one had any problems!!!  We will be loyal customers!

Great crew by valmal17

Sail date: / Traveled as: Couple
Ship: Norwegian Jewel / Destination: Alaska - Inside Passage

The crew on the ship are fantastic! They are super friendly and helpful. They'll always take a moment to stop and speak with you, even if just to ask you about your day. And that's how the whole staff acts from the chefs to the stateroom maintenance to the spa workers.  They're all really friendly.

There are a few things that Norwegian could do a little better at. The food at the regular dining areas were just ok. The food at the specially restaurants was really amazing. I would have also appreciated some better entertainment geared towards my age group. There were only 2 movie channels and a couple movie nights. The channels often re-aired some of the same movies multiple times. Charging less for the activities they do have would also be beneficial.

Overall the trip was great. The locations and shore excursions were lots of fun and there were a lot of options. I saw everything I wanted to see and more onboard and onshore. I would highly recommend this cruise to others.

NCL Jewel has got me hooked on cruising. by teresaprogers

Sail date: / Traveled as: Couple
Ship: Norwegian Jewel / Destination: Mexico

This was my second sail on the NCL Jewel and my husbands first. Everything about this was great. The food, entertainment and service is five star's all the way.

we will be cruising again on this ship come October.

as well as trying the NCL Escape in August. We felt papered and were spoiled for sure. There is no better way to travel then with NCL. You are left wanting nothing, because you have everything you possibly could want or need included.

Mostly a fun experience! by cynderbad

Sail date: / Traveled as: Couple
Ship: Norwegian Jewel / Destination: Mexico

I'm not giving the ship a 3 star rating. If I could, I'd give the ship a 4 star rating, but for the overall experience, it was only a 3. The ship and experiences on board were all good, although we found that there was very little on board activities that appealed to us, and because the weather turned bad the last 2 days at sea, we were fairly bored by the time we docked in San Pedro. The shore excursion at Cabo was lame and then I had a horrible experience after eating at Cabo Wabo! Mazatlan was fun and Puerto Vallarta was pretty, clean and we probably had our nicest shore day at that location. Overall, though, I can honestly say we will most likely never travel to the Mexican Riviera again. :(

Our cruise to Alaska aboard NCL Jewel by facconspc

Sail date: / Traveled as: Couple
Ship: Norwegian Jewel / Destination: Alaska - Inside Passage

We have taken over 30 cruises and we were very impressed with all aspects of this ship. From the officers, crew, food and entertainment. The  verity of food selections were outstanding. We have cruised with NCL before from New Orleans to Hawaii to name a few.

The greeter on deck 12th entering the food area singing "Washy Washy" each day set the tone. I believe his name is Norman C.

Everything was perfect as far as we are concerned from boarding to exiting the vessel.

Alaska by zhenlee1

Sail date: / Traveled as: Family (older children)
Ship: Norwegian Jewel / Destination: Alaska - Inside Passage

Trip started off badly when NCL (via the customs laws) would not allow my wife to board for she had left her green card at home. For a first cruise I was miserable for the first few days for my boys and I were were like.a car with three wheels but things did get better after we reached port for I was able to call home and speak with her for 35 minutes. I bought her a nice Tanzanite necklace in Ketchikan.

Cruising was an interesting experience for where else could a schmuck like me be so well treated by the working staff. Our junior room steward Leo in particular was a sympathetic voice when I was in the dumps. The ports themselves seem commercial to me but I enjoyed myself in Skagaway due mostly to the longer port stay. Juneau felt rushed with just 6 hours in port and only 1 in town after a visit to the Glacier. I wish we could have gotten to Victoria earlier for its tough to justify spending my hard earned money to see the gardens when the ship arrives at 5 and you get off the ship at 530 with under two hours of daylight left. The ship itself was fine but not everyone is into live entertainment in the evenings for I would have liked seeing some of the movies shown in our rooms on a large theater type of screen with popcorn. Too much prodding to sell more things to the passengers for even the live entertainment performers were hocking their CD which was a turn off for me.

I liked the food for we mostly ate in the Garden Cafe which was informal as opposed to the Main dining rooms. The two steak houses were fine as were the Pan Asian restaurant. The acrobatic act on the final night was fun and the trip itself would have been great if only my wife were with me for the week.

Cruising in the Caribbean by dlpkmiller

Sail date: / Traveled as: Couple
Ship: Norwegian Jewel / Destination: Caribbean - Western

We enjoyed our cruise on the Norwegian Jewel. Weather was good, ship's crew were accommodating, entertainment was excellent and the food was very good.

The ship is laid out in excellent fashion except for the pool area. The adult pool should have been in a separate area away from the crowds. It was also too deep for my wife to get in the pool as both ends were over her head.

Slum Areas by richardburns117

Sail date: / Traveled as: Couple
Ship: Norwegian Jewel / Destination: Caribbean - Western

If I had wanted to take a tour of poverty stricken areas I would have stayed home. I wouldn't recommend this cruise to anyone. The cruise may have been in the Caribbean, but it certainly wasn't what I was expecting. No crystal clear water, no white sandy beaches ...just shanties and dirty streets. WOW! What a disappointment. You should advertise the cruise as a tour of third world countries ...It ain't what I thought I was paying for. This was my last Norwegian cruise.

Cruising with kids by patc95132

Sail date: / Traveled as: Singles/Friends
Ship: Norwegian Jewel / Destination: Alaska - Inside Passage

If you are looking for a cruise to take kids this is a great one.  They seem to have lots for the kids to do.  With Freestyle cruising there is plenty to eat, at almost every time of day, except for midnight buffet.  Many choices for kids as well.  There is even a separate area for kids and their families. Great family vacation.

Unfortunaley, I didn't realize how many kids now cruised.  Having cruised before Freestyle came about, I was used to that type of cruise.  Kids were constantly runnng into us.  I enjoy the formal nights and more elegant food choices of years gone by.

Service could not have been better, from your room to those cleaning the tables.  Everyone spoke great English and were wonderful.  I have never seen so many cocktail lounges as was on this ship.  Nice entertainment in most of them.  The evening entertainment was super.  There is something going on at every hour for everyone.  You will never be bored.

Wonderful time was had by myself and my two adult daughters, except we thought we had left kids at home.

Ready to go again! by tnthernandez

Sail date: / Traveled as: Couple
Ship: Norwegian Jewel / Destination: Alaska - Inside Passage

My husband and I loved our cruise to Alaska! We had wonderful cusomer service from everyone we met. The freestyle cruising let us have our trip our way, and the food was great. We really enjoyed Moderno, the Brazilian style restaurant. We enjoyed our balcony and used it alot. Always something to do on board, and we were really happy with our excursions. We took the train in Skagway, would say this is something you don't want to miss. Also rode the tram up Mount Roberts, great views from the top! Had such a marvelous time that we put the deposit down on another cruise!

A litte pricey but a good experience by vnatland

Sail date: / Traveled as: Couple
Ship: Norwegian Jewel / Destination: Alaska - Inside Passage

Just got back from Alaska and saw some great wildlife and amazing views.  The ship itself was clean and the food was pretty good though not amazing.  I thought the cruise was a bit pricier than others, including the price of things on the ship itself.  The cost is not what it appears when you are first booking as you have to add the taxes to the initial price and then the gratuities while on the ship; for my Mom and I that was $12 day for each of us which adds up quickly.  The service was really good, especially in our cabin , and the very funny and friendy cruise director made sure there was always some type of entertainment of the ship. There were times when the ship did seem a bit crowded, especially in the cafe, because the weather was not warm enough for people to lounge outside.  Some people did not like the freestyle cruising but I loved being able to eat meals whenever I wanted ad not being forced to eat and the same table with the same people every night. Overall I'm glad for the Alaskan experience but would have liked a little better value.

June 2014 Alaska Jewel Cruise by ofniii

Sail date: / Traveled as: Couple
Ship: Norwegian Jewel / Destination: Alaska - Inside Passage

This was our first cruise for our 40th Anniversary.  Sleeping quarters were very nice, clean and very good steward.  Bathroom pretty compact, might be a problem for larger person to get around in.  Plenty of storage area, fully able to unpack everything, and bags can be sent down to storage if you don't have room in your closet.  Meals were good and you could ask for items that weren't part of the menu item you selected (I was able to add bacon to french toast, etc.).  Would like to have seen a bit more fresh vegetables.  Passengers didn't seem to pay attention to the dress codes suggested for T'sar's and the Azure dining rooms, as we saw everything from bib coveralls to dress coats and gowns sitting next to each other. Was disappointed that you couldn't get snacks after about 10:30 as all the dining areas, even the buffett were closed and there only 3 types of pizza available for late night. Dining service for breakfast on day we returned to port was slow.  Got the feeling the normal staff wasn't on duty and they were training new people.  The arrival and departure from all ports were pretty much dead on schedule.  Onboard activities were plentiful and varied. The excursion to the Gardens in Victoria was well worth the cost.    They and beautiful and the bus driver did an excellent job of pointing out places of interest to and from the boat, taking us on different routes thru town. Even with all the food, I think I lost weight with all the walking around the ship and shore excursions.  The nightly theater shows were great, and I would not want to play poker with the magician.

7 day cruise on the Norwegion Jewel by mywindow2000

Sail date: / Traveled as: Singles/Friends
Ship: Norwegian Jewel / Destination: Caribbean - Western

The cruise was nice.  Boarding and disembarking we're smooth and easy.  Even tendering ashore was easy and fast.  However the food really disappointed me.  Every night.
