Disappointing Cruise by FirstCruiseinAu

Overall I will not be going on the Norwegian Jewel again. While the standard for food may be lower in Australia, I don’t think cold food and food that was cooked hours ago is acceptable to be served anywhere, whether it’s the buffet or main dining rooms.

Hottest Alaskan Cruise by maureengallaghe

Dave, the cruise director was personable, fun and really made you feel at home. The staff always said hello and asked if they could help. My steward went out of his way to compliment me and ask about my day. Everything flowed nicely. There was something going on all the time, shows, music, games, and non-stop food options. I was traveling by myself, but never felt alone. Looking forward to going on my next cruise.

The glaciers were the best part. I wouldn't advise anyone to cruise this area this late in the season. Too rainy and the ports were mainly small and poor.

Excellent Experience by NCLaccount9950

This was our very first cruise and we thoroughly enjoyed it.  Everything went like clockwork from getting checked in and on-board to disembarking at the end of our cruise.  We especially enjoyed our waiter in Tsar's Palace, Raja, who was very personable and always trying to make dinner fun.  He remembered us from day one, and we began asking to be seated in his area. Mark was our steward, and he was always helpful and available.  He too remembered our names from day 1.  Our room was always clean, and we especially looked forward to the towel animals each evening.  The shows in the Stardust Theater were fabulous!  We enjoyed the Band on the Run performances, Tina Turner tribute, the Acrobatics, and the magician very much.  The Norwegian booking agents were extremely helpful in getting us a fantastic cabin.  We truly appreciated their help.  We will likely book our next cruise on Norwegian and will recommend them to friends. Thank you for a fantastic experience.

Wonderful trip. The crew was spectacular, the excursions we chose were a good fit for our family. I would highly recommend this trip. We all felt the Alaskan ports were similar. It's the excursions at each that made them fun.

Very nice Alaskan cruise by anasanav

I am happy with my cruise experience. It was nice to be away from busy stressful routine and be pampered for a week. Sometimes this matters more than visiting or seeing. I just loved the friendly smily staff and all the entertainment and effort they put forth to make us feel at home and we truly called it a welcome home when coming back from walking all day in the cold.

What a great way to see Mexico for the first time!  A great way to celebrate our anniversary, too. Warm and caring employees, good food and great excursions. Lots of activities to keep you busy on sea days.  Fun and exciting nightly shows.

Fantastic Cruise by Drahead

Sail Date: / Traveled As: Couple

The ship had all of the cabins filled but it did not seem overcrowded. We were able to get in Cagney's on 3 nights easily without any reservations. We ate mostly at the Garden Cafe and at the barbecues on the 12th deck. Food was very good with a good variety. We had rib eye steak and porterhouse and all of the extras plus shrimp cocktails as appetizers. The staff was very attentive. O'Sheehans Bar & Grill was open for late night snacks. At the aft of the ship adjacent to the Garden Cafe is the Great Outdoors which has outdoor seating. We would take our breakfast out there and watch the view. We bought a 6 pack of water when we first got on the ship. There was a small refrigerator in our cabin.

After walking at the 3 ports we used the Thermal Spa which helped the sore backs and legs. We would highly recommend it. The heated tile loungers with a panoramic view of the ocean is heavenly. The spa staff are helpful.

We had the unlimited drink package and the 3 specialty dinner package. You had to pay for any drink amount above $15 which did not happen. There are complimentary breakfast selections with coffee and breakfast rolls for free. The additional charge of $7.95 is for omelets and other meals. No need to have meals in your room since the dining areas are close by.

Lots of things to do which are scheduled on-board like Bingo, art shows, trivia sessions and karaoke. The entertainment was live music around the ship to Broadway shows and comedians. Every night was different venue. You do not need to book a seat for the shows. The casino was fun! My husband played the Texas Holdem tournament and I played the quarter push game.

I would highly recommend this cruise! The only thing we would do next time is book a cabin with a balcony and not a porthole view. The tender boat from Cabo picked up the passengers directly below out porthole window.

Nothing bad to say the organization and conduct of the cruise has been simply perfect. Crew has shown a professional skill the is rare to find around. As I am an old Merchant Navy Captain, former Navy Seal, and actual Experimental Flight Test Engineer, professionalism is one of the first things I am going to look for in any activity of my life.

My wife and I wanted... by duhsty

Sail Date: /

My wife and I wanted to try NCL’s Freestyle Cruising and Alaska was on our bucket list.  So, the Norwegian Jewel seemed like a good fit.  We were not disappointed.  The entertainment was absolutely amazing!  I especially enjoyed Band On The Run.  The variety of music was wonderful, and the performers were so talented. The daytime activities (games, music, trivia, demonstrations, etc.) were also fun ways to spend time onboard.  We made a point to try every restaurant possible (only missing Teppanyaki).  Nearly all the food was absolutely delicious.  Chin Chin provided the only disappointment, with a choice of flavorless noodles, mostly broth pho or overly salty noodles.  However, when my wife dropped off a comment card, the Hotel Director personally called her to apologize.  This sort of customer service was standard on the Jewel.  Everyone bent over backwards to be friendly and helpful.  We were fortunate to have good weather while in Alaska, and the excursions did not disappoint.  The whale watching and wildlife quest operated by Allen Marine was breathtaking.  Seeing a humpback whale breaching repeatedly was an unexpected treat.  Skagway was the port I wish we had more time to experience.  So many cool restaurants and shops.  I could have hung out at Skagway Brewing Co. drinking Spruce Tip Blonde Ale all evening.  I strongly recommend the Norwegian Jewel and the Alaskan itineraries, and look forward to our next NCL cruise.

Never got food together for my allergies for 4 days.  Did not eat but a salad for 2 days and did not eat for the other two other than MY bread and other things I brought on. If it was in the package , then they couldn't figure out how to change it.

Bed kept coming apart. Took 4 days to finally get it together and to stay.I went between the bed twice. Hurting my neck and shoulder area, causing a migrane which I was in bed for two days due to the problem with the beds. Had to spend over 300.00 to get a massage to work out the problem the separation of the beds caused.

Other than 4 people on the cruise , NO ONE had accountablity for getting things done They lost the ice packs I brought on for medical and food needed off the ship. Room service blamed it on the room attendant who had told us HE was NOT allowed to take them. CALL ROOM SERVICE and they said THEY didn't take them. Finally they found them TWO HOURS AFTER we wanted to get off the ship. Then on SATURDAY WHILE AT SEA... I get a phone call at 7:15 "Mame do you need your ice packs?"  Really, where am I going I am at SEA!!

Hubby went down to get a piece of MY bread toasted because I had not eaten in two days, due to the bed deparation causing a migrane and nausea. IT TOOK ALMOST 45 minutes to get MY BREAD. The maitre d IGNORED my hubby when he tried to find out where it was, and then brought it down WITHOUT TOASTING IT.  IT TOOK ANOTHER 15 minutes!!  By then it was not wanted and cold.

Cannot get water with drink packaages. Only this HORRIBLE cruise line does this. Better cruise lines like Royal, Celebrity GIVE YOU WATER as well so you don't have tons of drunken stupid people on board. You can only get alcohol and soda.  As a vegan who is allergic to GLUTEN ,DAIRY and so many other things I GOT NOTHING TO DRINK unless I PAID FOR IT.  WATER is 2 for 7.95 and they are SMALL!

$7.95 for room service?  Unbelieveable.

Never had lobster, shrimp or any other specialty type of food offered on the menu. Low class ship, worse food ever, and my husband willl eat anything and he said the buffet was low quality and the restaurants were low quality or MEDIOCRE at best.

I have been on 11 cruises this by far was the WORST EVER!!  EVEN COMPARED TO THE THREE DAY CARNIVAL CRUISE TO ENSENADA! I will make sure EVERYONE i know knows about the Norweigian Jewel and how they don't give a CRAP about any customer service. NEVER AGAIN!!!  NO OTHER SHIP goes into MAZATLAN!! IT IS A STEP DOWN from TIJUANA AND ENSENADA!!! .Horrible port ( goes with the horrible cruise) and  you spend THE MOST TIME IN MAZATLAN!!!

Get rid of the port and spend more time in Cabo....

There is so much MORE that was TERRIBLE/ HRRIBLE CUSTMER SERVICE,  that it would take me a month to write all about it. I did... to the Cruise line itself.  THEY DO NOT CARE! Never got a response!

Overall, a great trip by king41636780

Overall, I enjoyed my 7-day cruise on the Norwegian Jewel.  I’ve cruised many times before on at least three other cruise lines.  For the most part, this was comparable to the others.  The ship was beautiful and clean, the staff was friendly, knowledgeable, and helpful.  The Jewel is one of the smaller ships in the fleet and I find that I enjoy them more than the larger ones.  On the smaller ships the crew is more cohesive and personable.  And you see them more often so they learn your names and they almost become friends. Larger ships are more impersonal.

The activities and entertainment was wonderful.  Our favorite band was The Temperature.  Loved the White Hot Party.  Went to a couple of shows.  They were good but similar in that the company seemed to made up of singers, a few dancers, and some awesome acrobats.  All in all they were enjoyable even though I saw some of the same acrobatic tricks twice.  They were just as thrilling the second time.

One place Norwegian needs help is with technology.  I found their website difficult to navigate and not as informative as it could have been.  The itinerary was incomplete.  Online, the departure time on one of the days was missing and I booked a tour through an outside company that I thought would fit the schedule.  Once on the ship, I learned that the ship was departing before my tour ended.  I had to frantically call the tour company to re-schedule, paying over $100 for a ship-to-shore phone call.  Another problem was the Norwegian app.  I was so excited to have the ship’s activity schedule at my fingertips.  But after the 2nd day, I didn’t use it because it had errors and missing information.  The hardcopy schedule delivered to my room every night was more accurate.  The online schedule should have been the most accurate because it can be updated at any time.  Seemed as though no one was doing that, so it was very static and unreliable.  That was a missed opportunity.

The food was OK; I’ve had better on cruise ships.  I like the “freestyle dining” on Norwegian so you’re not assigned to a dining room and a table.  Occasionally there would be a dish or a dessert that was wonderful.  But overall I’d give the food a 6.  Only went to one specialty restaurant—the Brazilian one (name escapes me).  The food there was excellent!!!

If the price is right, I would take another Norwegian cruise.

Excellent Alaska Cruise by jimintemecula

We really enjoyed this cruise. The ports were all fun, the 2 days cruising glacier bay and the hubbard glacier were truly awe inspiring. There was not a single thing we would have wanted differently. The staff of the Jewel are all tremendous. The ship is older, but clean and very well maintained.

Sail Date: /

We just returned from the 14 day cruisetour. It was the best vacation we have ever taken. Arrived in Fairbanks on Saturday and toured on our own till Tuesday when we hooked up with the tour. Spent one night in Fairbanks, two in Denali, one in Anchorage and two in Homer. Then boarded ship in Seward. Spent overnight in Vancouver before flying home. Love NCL and Jewel was great. Would do again!!

The locations were the attraction, not the ship by Kanzus

This ship is on its way to dry dock in 2018 (we were told) and it needs it; We choose cruises by where they're going and if they meet our scheduling needs; this one had both.  Ship was sold out, so we accepted an obstructed view cabin, which was well located but extra small and fairly noisy from the outside. Wouldn't do that again, as price is the same.  Probably wouldn't take this ship again until after dry dock.

Your cancellation policy sucks by MaureenBooth

The cruise itself was great but my daugher and her husband couldn't make it at the last minute.  I had paid for the cruise and I had two granddaughters who were willing to go in their place.  Your representatives refused to allow that because it was not "company policy" to change the names on the room.  It was totally paid for and it was a cruise in celebration of our 50th wedding anniversary so having another family member there would have been nice.  How hard is it to change the name of a client on a computer?  But no, it is "company policy".  It makes no sense to me or anyone else I have discussed this with that since I had paid for the room and wasn't trying to do anything illegial or unethical to the cruise line that we could not invite someone else to take the place of the person on the listing.  It makes no sense whatsoever!  If I was trying to screw the cruise line that would be one thing, but all I wanted to do was to get another person from my own family to come on a cruise that was already paid for and looked forward to.

I will not be using Norwegian Cruise Line again and I am telling anyone who asks me not to use you as well.  Your motto on the phone was "Customer satisfaction is our top priority."  Well, in my case, there was no customer satisfaction at all.

One of the best cruises I've taken! by robie79

Sail Date: / Traveled As: Couple

This is my 7th cruise and one of the best I've taken. This was my first cruise with NCL and first to Alaska. We had a balcony room on the port side and it was clean and spacious. The Jewel Class ships have great bathrooms with a separate toilet stall and a shower with serious water pressure. The staff were all friendly and accommodating. The food was excellent-with the possible exception of O'Sheehans. We ate at O'Sheehans twice, once just for dessert and once for dinner. The dessert was excellent but the dinner (seafood basket with an appetizer of mozarella sticks) came out cold.-everything was cold. La Cucina and Moderno were probably our favories. The steak in all the restaurants was excellent. The performance at Teppanyaki was really good and the fried rice was good but not my favorite restaurant. We ate at the buffet for breakfast and lunch and one dinner and it was always good. We usually sat outside at the Great Outdoors for fresh air.

The shows on the trip were all excellent. There were two that I wouldn't have taken my young children to because they were slightly explicit but still PG-13.

Getting on and off the ship in port was very easy with the exception of some difficulty with customs in Victoria BC. We just waited awhile for the line to go down and then got right off. If we had had an excursion planned right at scheduled disembarkation we would have missed it because we were about 2 hours late getting off the ship. I believe all the people who had shore excursions through the ship were accommodated. I special touch this line did was offering hot chocolate, water, and cookies when we re-boarded the ship. This was really nice because many of the ports were chilly!

On this particular cruise we didn't use the gym or the spa but toured them both. The gym was small and didn't face the bow of the ship (on the Explorer of the seas the treadmills all look out enormous bow windows so you get amazing ocean views while exercising!) but it seemed adequate. They had several great classes offered like yoga, spinning, and a suspension (TRX type) class but for a fee so I didn't do them. They also had some classes offered on cooking, pizza making, and cupcake decorating but again for a fee so I didn't do those either. We had plenty to do even on the days at sea without having to pay additional for classes but it was nice they offered them. Back in the day I remember those types of classes being free but it seems like more and more cruise lines are charging for that kind of activity.

We loved all the ports we went to and our only complaint is that we would have liked more time in each but that is the nature of cruising in Alaska.

I also really enjoyed cooler weather cruising, it was a very different experience from the caribbean cruises I've taken in the past.

Overall I loved this cruise and would definitely cruise again with NCL although our next cruise is with RCI. I don't know that I'd cruise Alaska again just because I want to explore the state more thoroughly.

Just got back from Alaska... by teechbiz

Just got back from Alaska on the NCL Jewel. Employees simply wonderful. We liked the food but we read people complaining about it. My only complaint was too many tempting desserts which didn't help my diet. Show were high energy we'd go again
