Traveled As: Family w/older children

Room Type: Oceanview

this was our first experience with a freestyle cruise, and probably will never go back to the other more formal kind... you get dressed up the night you want, if you want for some nice pictures on board (even though one of the photographers was the worst ever, and the prices of the ugly pictures are outrageous) the food was good... sometimes though, you came in after a shore excursion and the big cafeterias were closed, or had to get up earlier to get to them... the spa was amazing, service friendly everywhere, all of the staff was smiling and very pleasing all the time. Staterooms nice in size while small, even though we paid for ocean view, we got frosted windows which was not nice, but overall, the staterooms were nice, the steward was super efficient and prompt. Cruise activities varied and fun. This was a family celebration and was a wonderful experience. Wil go back to norwegian definitely.

Pros: super friendly staff, the spa

Cons: cafeteria schedules, the photographers

Recommends Norwegian Jewel? Yes!

Ship Quality
It could be a little more clean, not that it was dirty or anything, it is just that I am very picky and observant... corners were not vacuumed well, tiny details. Luxurious without being overly pretentious.
Food and Dining
Good food quality, somewhat lacking in options for the health nuts...My 7 year daughter has gluten and dairy allergies, and the staff was friendly and serviceable with this, even though her options were VERY limited, and I had to pre-order her food with one day in advance... when you are in a large group, you go with the majority, and this made it difficult to follow... because if I had pre-ordered a special meal, I had to be at that particular restaurant the next day, which made it sometimes impossible to do...
Cabin / Stateroom
no amenities, shampoo and shower gell provided in dispensers everywhere, even in the spa. Comfortable bed, no place to put your suitcases if they are is large and don't fit under the bed... nice sized closet, good many drawers.
Service and Staff
this is the best value of the ship, the friendliness of the staff, they do get out of their way to please your every whim...
Entertainment
the magician Jean Pierre, was more comedian than magician, fun though, but would have loved to see a good magic show. The shows I watched were good, the one about fountains was hilarious... it is staff dressed in bedsheets doing funny stuff with water...
Children's Programs
Did not use the children's club, even though I had a 7 year old onboard, there was an arcade, which was fun and not at all crowded. Muffin decorating activity was drab, very plain and simple, could use a little more thought and variety...
