Norwegian Jewel Cruise Review to Alaska - Inside Passage
Ship: Norwegian Jewel
Cabin Type: Balcony
Traveled As: Family (older children)

I thought the ship itself was great but the staff and the way we were treated was horrible. It all started at the time we dropped our luggage off and continued from there. We were rushed through the baggage dropoff line and were spoken to very rudely. There was little direction and help.
Once on board after sitting in three long lines, we tried to get something to eat but could not due to a mandatory safety meeting. To say the least, this first impression was not good at all. As a matter of fact we were thinking of how can we get off this ship. This was a major let down as we spent our hard earned money for this trip and were very excited for it.
We found that the staff was not knowledgeable concerning the ship activities and times. We were led astray several times. The freestyle cruising system was horrible. It was like a cattle call getting to the buffets and we were lucky if we found seating. We basically took our food to our stateroom on several occassions. We finally found that getting reservations at the main dining rooms was the way to go. Unfortunately the waiters were oughful and messed up our orders several times. We did have a great waitress during one of our breakfast sittings. Our room steward was also great. Most of the rest of the staff was unfriendly. This may be a result of the language barrier and cultures.
If it was not for our destination and the fact we had other family members with us, we could have counted this trip as a complete failure and money lost.
