Will not cruise again with Norwegian

Sail Date: March 24, 2012

Traveled As: Couple

Room Type: Oceanview

The ship's appearance was nice and clean. Staff members were either extremely friendly or grumpy. Over 150+ passengers and crew members became sick with a GI illness which caused vomiting, diarrhea and vomiting. I had this on the 6th and 7th day. I was not allowed to leave my stateroom during this time even though the illness was not airborne. Very disappointing to be stuck in a room the size of a normal household bathroom with a small window for two days when you are in vacation.

Pros: Friendly staff members and nice entertainment

Cons: Over 150+ passengers sick with GI illness, Great Stirrup Cay had little to do.

Recommends Norwegian Jewel? No.

Ship Quality
The ship was laid out nicely and signs pointing to locations were easy to follow. The elevators were a a waste of time. You could wait up to ten minutes from one to come. For this reason, we took the stairs every time. Our stateroom toilet would sometime flush and fill with horrible smelling brown water. We would flush it again and it would go away.
Cabin / Stateroom
Average room size, decent bed, and good house keeping.
Service and Staff
Most crew members were very friendly. The buffet personnel were hit or miss; some were friendly while others acted like you were wasting their time
A nice variety of entertainment was available on board and a lot to choose from.
Food and Dining
There were plently of dining options with a variety of choices. Passengers started getting sick on the third day and the buffet became a nightmare. Instead of it being a self service buffet, it became "wait until a crew member decides to put food on your plate" buffet. You would have to stand by whatever food item you wanted until a crew member came to scoop the food onto your plate. This could take several minutes per item. For instance, if you wanted a cheeseburger, you would have to wait to receive a bun from the bakery, wait to receive the hamburger patty from the grill, wait to receive each condiment; cheese, tomato, lettuce, etc. Basically your food would be cold by the time you received your full meal. Some staff members were happy to serve you and would ask how much you would like, while others put on whatever amount they felt like and moved on to the next person.
Due to the issues at the buffet, we decided to try the restaurants. Which is when I received the GI illness.
