7 Night Bahamas & Florida (New York Roundtrip) Sail Date: December 03, 2011 Ship: Norwegian Jewel Cabin Type: Balcony Traveled As: Singles/Friends Reviewed: 6 years ago
I found a great deal on NCL jewel and decided to cruise. It turned out to be disappointing experience. I was bitten by bed bugs on the 3rd night of my cruise. Lost almost a day from my vacation while being transferred to a different room, subjecting my clean clothing to being laundered by ncl crew because of "protocol" and just being stressed out and constantly checking if i have bed bugs in my new stateroom.
I originally booked a balcony stateroom which is a good size for two people but after bed bug episode, we were moved to the mini suite, which was more spacious and nicer. we also went to the onboard doctor who gave us hydrocortizone cream and antibiotics complimentary. they also gave us one free complimentary dinner at specialty restaurant of our choice to make up for the inconvinience.
Food and Dining

no hot coffee unless you make it yourself
buffet - same thing every single day,
dinning rooms - appetizers were great, main corses always too dry, too salty too cold, you also have to wait LONG time from the time you sit down to the time you start eating

basically there is nothing to do until about 6pm, soda and alcohol is always extra charge. we took the "shore excursion or extortion" in bahamas for atlantis, its way too expansive for what they do: make you wait in the hot sun for almost an hour, stuff you in to the shuttle full of ppl with barely any cold air blowing on you, for about 5 miles, give you 5 min "tour" of the facilities, and you are on your own to find everything anyways, then drop you off on the street, you have to walk several blocks to the port yourself. Next time I would just take a private cab or even consider walking, the resort is just few miles away, then pay the fee at the atlantis casino to get in to the atlatis resort, they have tours every hour or so there, and get extra couple of hours out of your time at the resort, save some money, or even pay the same but you dont have to be under the scorching sun for an hour. I dont think shore exursion to atlantis resort was worth the money
Service and Staff

random ppl come up to you without introducing themselves or their role, ask you how are you, I really do not understand this practice. one waitress in the specialty restaurant was great, amazing, everyone else: very rough around the edges, staff talk to each other in their language, which you had a feeling noone spoke english on the ship, laughing and flirting with each other, which its ok to have a good time for everyone, but still the atmosphere was too casual, it almost seemed that no one had any standards in services provided to the quests

its a nice ship, common areas were always clean, we got used to the layout in about two days, we could find dinning rooms, casino and gym with no problems :) the treadmills in the gym have a tv attached to them so you can watch the same 4 channels you have in your stateroom while excising on the treadmill

i found bed bugs in mine!
both of my rooms location was midship, you can easilly acess almost all the common areas of the ship through that, very convinient
condtion of the stateroom was pretty run down, i also found balls of dust on tv stand, and the window area, white streaks on the bathroom shower glass, holes in the sheets, the sheets also have a plasticy feel to them for some reason
