Staff great, but had some problems

Sail Date: November 26, 2011

Traveled As: Couple

Room Type: Balcony

The ship was very nice and clean and cleanliness was evident in encouraging the guests to use waterless hand cleaner at every opportunity.
Because of a problem with our mini suite, had to switch to a smaller room at the very back of the boat, inconvenient to most of the goings-on toward the mid and forward parts of the ship.

Pros: Service was excellent. Dinner menu and breakfast choices.

Cons: Not being informed that our stateroom was directly below a "kids play area". The noise at all hours of the day and up to 10:30 PM was intolerable. We had to switch to a smaller stateroom all the way in the back of the boat at 11:00 PM on our first night.

Recommends Norwegian Jewel? No.

We had been on a cruise with NCL before and the entertainment was like going to a Broadway show, almost every night.
Not into comedians or magicians, which is what was offered most nights. Very disappointed in the entertainment on this cruise compared to what we have experienced in the past.
Children's Programs
We were never informed that this was a special "Nicolodean" cruise, which catered to kids. Ship was overrun with children, and this did not make for a relaxing, romantic voyage. Too many kids in the jacuzzi's making noise, running around without much parent supervision, babies crying at the 9:30 PM show when they should have been in bed. We should have been informed that there would have been a lot (several hundred) children BEFORE we booked the cruise. We love kids, and the staff seemed to work well with them, but my wife and I didn't want to be inundated with them when we were looking for a relaxing week around adults.

We booked the cruise mainly because we wanted to upgrade to a larger mini-suite. The first night, we heard thunderous banging above us. When I investigated, found out that in was the "kids play area", open most of the day and up to 10:30 PM at night. Had to switch to a smaller regular room all the way in the back of the boat. Room itself was fine, but not what we wanted.
