Cruise on Norwegian Jewel

Sail Date: February 27, 2011

Reviewed: 6 years ago

Traveled As: Couple

Room Type: Suite

The ship was clean, easy to find your way around and our mini suite was very roomy. Having our own balcony was wonderful. We brought our own wine aboard in our non carry on luggage and opened it in our stateroom, then brought it into dinner with us. Otherwise, if they open it there is a $15 corkage fee. You need to be wary of the extra tab you can run up with alcohol, bingo, and impulse purchases. The jewelry and watches can be purchased at home for equal or less. The art is fraudulent and thousands more than their value.

Pros: The food was fabulous and the freestyle dining a real plus.

Cons: The art auction is piracy at sea and should be avoided and not condoned.

Recommends Norwegian Jewel? Yes!

Ship Quality
The ship was spacious and easy to get around. It was renovated in 2011 and looked and smelled fresh.
Food and Dining
The Czar's Palace dining room was elegant and the food was delicious. The buffet was fun. The international variety at the buffet was terrific especially the Indian food. We did not eat at any of the specialty restaurants for the additional charge.
Cabin / Stateroom
We had a free upgrade to a mini suite and it was very roomy. The bathroom was large and had a tub in it.
Service and Staff
All the staff members were courteous and helpful.
The tour excursions were ok. We went kayaking in Cape Canaveral and that was great...we saw manatees. Our second stop was canceled because of weather and we spent a few extra hours in Nassau. Atlantis was a fun stop there. The excursion desk staff on the boat was not very knowledgeable and really didn't know the details of the excursions.
Nassau, Bahamas
The Atlantis aquarium was wonderful and the conch fritters were delicious but greasy.
Great Stirrup Cay (Cruiseline Private Island), Bahamas
It looked beautiful from the boat and we wanted to snorkel there but the water was rough and the shuttle boats couldn't bring us in. So we lost that day and were not compensated in any way.
Port Canaveral, Florida
Kayaking was fun, but they made a stop on a scruffy little island for no apparent reason.
Don't Miss: If you have kids it would be better to go over to Disney or Kennedy Space Center.
