Cruise of the Damned!!

Sail Date: November 14, 2010

Reviewed: 5 years ago

Traveled As: Singles/Friends

Room Type: Suite

Lack of any structure on the part of NCL to deal with passenger control, boarding and leaving the Jewel. Food and service at ALL dining areas was absolutely horrible. Stirrup Cay was an absolute nightmare with passengers fighting each other over sun chairs while crew sat in the shade on lounge chairs and did nothing. This was just an example of the whole week.

Pros: Arriving back in NYC

Cons: I have cruised on several different lines and I have never seen the lack of consideration and indifference to passengers as was exhibited by the crew and personnel of this ship for the entire length of the cruise.

Recommends Norwegian Jewel? No.

Ship Quality
We spoke to our steward about peeling paint that was falling off a pipe on our terrace. We also asked him to clean the glass on the terrace because it was so dirty we couldn't see out of it. He did neither but expected a large tip at the end of the cruise.
Cabin / Stateroom
We had a mini suite and were both 6' tall men. The single beds were to small and the sheets felt like they were made out of plastic. They kept slipping off during the night.
Service and Staff
No one went "above and beyond". All were below par and most did not have a grip of the English, French, Asian and Indian language.
Food and Dining
Buffet food was always cold. Specialty restaurants were disappointing. Very small portions, limited menu and lackluster flavors.
Nassau, Bahamas
We had a great time in Nassau once we got away from the ship. We met a tour guide born in Nassau and we did a 2 1/2 hour tour of the area in an air conditioned van. He was educated, gave us lots on information about history new and old. Took us all around the island , pointing out where and where not to go. Then he took us to Atlantis and we strolled around the resort. All for $20 each.
Don't Miss: Find Fenton the tour guide, straw market.
Port Canaveral, Florida
Did the Airboat. It was a beautiful day and we saw a lot of large alligators. Also the animal rescue demonstration and lectures were very interesting.
Don't Miss: Airboats
Great Stirrup Cay (Cruiseline Private Island), Bahamas
We waited an hour and a half for a jitney. Lounge chairs and cabanas were completely filled. Close to 300 people walking around with no available chairs. Chaos!
Don't Miss: Stay on the ship!!!
