We took a hydrafoil ferry over to Sorento straight from the pier we pulled in to, rented scooters and drove the Amalfi Coast. Unbelievable! Then we returned to Naples and had "real" pizza from a restaurant right around the corner from where the ship parked. Get their version - it's unlike anything in the states. Way good!
We heard all the tourists were heading to Florennce and Pisa, so we rented a car (available from Hertz right at the pier) and went to Sienna and toured the Tuscan countryside where tour buses don't go. Will do Florence next time. After Rome and the Vatican fill of art, we opted for a change of scenery! Ran out of time to tour a Vineyard, but it still rocked!

A real disppointment. As the only non-pierside port, we didn't have enough time to do anything. Couldn't get off the ship until 9:00AM and had to be back by 2:30! I think we would have preferred a day at sea.

Did this on our own as well. There will be buses standing by right outside the pier for 20 Euros (each) roundtrip. Do it! The Shore excursion goes for $199 each and covers the same ground. We hooked up with a free tour once at St. Peter's that was very good!
