Had a great time by guss4719

Sail date: / Traveled as: Couple
Ship: Norwegian Getaway / Destination: Caribbean - Eastern

We really enjoyed our cruise.  The ship was beautiful, and the food was great. We took this cruise with some friends who had never been on a cruise before, and we got to show them what a great cruise line Norwegian is.

Nice cruise for the money by hunfold

Sail date: / Traveled as: Family (older children)
Ship: Norwegian Getaway / Destination: Caribbean - Eastern

Truly enjoyed the cruise though it felt like the boat was not managed as well as the Epic. The staff were not as nice. My cabin stewart didn't clean,my room as well. The ice bucket was dusty upon arrival and the light was broken over the bed which too them about 4 days to fix. However it is a nice boat they had nice activites. Tue cruise director Joe was nice funny and visible. He was more visible than any other cruise director on an ship I have been on. The pool areas are small but they have ample chaises to support the cruise. Food in the cafe was good except for the late night buffets. Savor had the best food in my opinion. The decor in the restaurants was amazing it was like being in a swanky NY restaurant. Quite a few people won pretty big on the slots. If you have kids and they will be in the kids program this iis the cruise. The kids were running to go every time the doors were open my son enjoyed it. Overall, nice cruise but if you haven't done the Epic it's a better value and better run ship.

Beautiful ship, mostly nice staff but other lines offer more. by gregrando

Sail date: / Traveled as: Large Group
Ship: Norwegian Getaway / Destination: Caribbean - Eastern

The ship of course is beautiful. The cruise director and staff are excellent. Most of the other staff were also nice not outstanding but nice.  Other cruise lines offer more in terms of dining.  There are too many nice restaurants on the ship you have to pay extra for.  The dining options included are just ok. No lobster tail or filet mignon.  The main two specialties were Prime Rib which was good but also Chicken and Waffles.  Chicken and Waffles on a cruise ship, really??????  No access to the sauna or steam room without buying an expensive membership, $ 45 per day or $ 200 for the week.   Bingo was a little pricey.  The Broadway show was excellent. No beverage or dining station at the front of the ship which was inconvenient.  This was a very expensive cruise and I expected a lot more from it.

We had a great time! by LindaSP

Sail date: / Traveled as: Family (older children)
Ship: Norwegian Getaway / Destination: Caribbean - Eastern

My daughter and I cruised in March.   There were plenty of activities on the ship and the crew did everything they could do to make sure the passengers had a great time.    The Getaway is beautiful, new, and very clean.    We thought the food was excellent, even without paying extra for the higher end restaurants.    We found that Savor was the best restaurant with no extra charge.   They served items like rack of lamb and beef tenderloin which were delicious.  We enjoyed all of the shows, especially Legally Blond, and the magic show.  At St. Maarten we went on the excursion to Orient Beach.   There was quite a bit of sea weed on that particular day, and the beach is very crowded, but we still had a good time.   The lunch spot was unique; open air huts.      We loved the champagne catamaran ride to St. John's from St. Thomas.   The snorkeling wasn't the greatest, but the crew made sure we had a great time on the sail back;  plenty of rum punch!   I was nervous after reading some of the reviews about the Atlantis excursion in the Bahamas, but booked it anyway.   I am a 57 year old out of shape women and was still able to do the extension walking that the reviews warn about.   We loved it there.   There is a lot to see and do... swimming at the lagoon or beach (we did the beach day excursion), the aquariums.... even the lobby is something to see.

I would definitely recommend this cruise.   We had a balcony room and it was worth the extra cost.    There were only two of us in the room and it was roomy enough.    They attended to the room at least twice a day, left us fresh ice, and made towel animals which was such a nice extra touch.    We didn't want to leave and would love to go again!

Good first experience by info854

Sail date: / Traveled as: Large Group
Ship: Norwegian Getaway / Destination: Caribbean - Eastern

We had a great time, this was our first cruise and we were pleased. The waiters and staff were all very nice. We have two things we would have changed if we could; the Getaway only has one adult pool which is really not enough when you have over 4,000 people on the ship. The other is that I have Celiac disease and choose to be vegan and I thought it would be more food allergy / vegan friendly. I felt I had limited choices and only ate at the buffet, I pretty much lived on salads the entire week. I thought things would be marked gluten free especially since I went to great lengths letting everyone know of my food restrictions ahead of time. All of the restaurants were centered around meat and had no gluten free options. They also said I had to order a day in advance and that was hard not knowing ahead of time where we were going to want to eat. I am used to bringing and packing my own food anytime I go on vacation and I was unable to do that on this trip so it made it hard to eat much. Anyway, it was a great experience and we would definitely do it again.

Honeymoon Cruise by jocelynlentine

Sail date: / Traveled as: Large Group
Ship: Norwegian Getaway / Destination: Caribbean - Eastern

This is our 2nd time on this exact cruise. Last year we got engaged on Magen's Bay in St. Thomas, which is very beautiful. This year we went back with 12 of our family and friends. Had such a great time. We also went to Maho Beach where the airplanes fly RIGHT over your head in St. Maarten. That was amazing. Highly recommend going there! In the Bahamas we went to Atlantis. Definitely was not worth $170 (per person). Will not do that again.

It was also Spring Break when we went, so there were a lot of younger, drunk kids on the ship. The ship was very crowded, we couldn't get into any Specialty Restaurants or any shows. Buying the drink package was well worth it. Everyone working on the ship is very friendly. Never found Spice H2O last year when we went on the cruise, this year we pretty much spent every night there. So much fun. Fireworks were awesome. Always something going on.

Our cruise was FANTASTIC!  Thanks to Lexi Garcia, our cruise was very relaxing and all of the planning was done ahead of time so that we knew what to expect.  I was a first time cruiser, so I wasn't sure what to expect...it was AMAZING!

Very good but! by dlst4

Sail date: / Traveled as: Couple
Ship: Norwegian Getaway / Destination: Caribbean - Eastern

We enjoyed our cruise and the ship and the crew service was excellant. Also the free entertainment was also some of the best we have had on any cruise line. However we were disappointed in the food at the resturants included in the cruise price and that in order to get the "quality of food and dining experence" we were accustomed to getting we would have to pay an upcharge. We can see that cruising is changing from the most affordable quality vacation available towards one of the most expensive. We still like the relaxed cruising experience Norweigen offers but we see it becoming less affordable.

Great family cruise by domc

This is a great family friendly cruise. A bit more casual than we are used to. New ship which is always nice. Staff provided excellent service. Our favorite excursion was in St. Thomas. It was the Powercat snorkeling & beach adventure.

Great Cruise by williamkelly

Sail date: / Traveled as: Couple
Ship: Norwegian Getaway / Destination: Caribbean - Eastern

food was great, entertainment was great, the staff was excellent very friendly. There was so much to do, impossible to do it all. Had to cancel 2 comped dinner res. because they were conflicting with other things we wanted to do. but not really a big deal because the buffet was out of this world. We had a front balcony suite on the 14th deck and the night swells rocked me to sleep. I usually only sleep about 4 hours at best each night but on this cruis I could hardly wake up in the morning , the best sleep I have ever had. There was a couple of thing I didn't like, for one the casino was very smoky and in the open not in a closed room and the smoke traveled everywhere, there were to restruants that we didn't try the Taste and Savor because the casino was right above and the smoke traveled down not a very good design so we ate a few times at the Tropicana room which was fantastic. The other thing was that you only get your itinerary the night before. and it would be nice if you got the whole weeks itinerary at the beginning of the week so you can better plan the events you wish to attend in stead of having to cancel things. this was our first cruise and we did enjoy it and would do it again with NCL

Experienced cruiser by heatherj767

Sail date: / Traveled as: Family (young children)
Ship: Norwegian Getaway / Destination: Caribbean - Eastern

The boat was nice. The reason why I give this a 3 star is because the service on the boat was not very good our rooms were never cleaned till after 12:00 each day. Also the balcony room is not set up the best for family's.

great trip by OrlandoCruising

Sail date: / Traveled as: Family (older children)
Ship: Norwegian Getaway / Destination: Caribbean - Eastern

The Getaway is a wonderful boat! So large, so much to do, but thoughtfully done so that there are many intimate spaces to enjoy some time with family and friends. St. Maarten, St. Thomas and Atlantis were awesome places to explore and have an adventure.

Great Cruise by jeckenrode10

Sail date: / Traveled as: Couple
Ship: Norwegian Getaway / Destination: Caribbean - Eastern

First cruise I have experienced and it was great. The Norwegian Getaway is a pretty new ship with lots to do. (ropes course, rock wall, water slides, mini golf, sports deck to name a few)The food was amazing. My only regret is not getting more friends to join. Highly recommended and will cruise with NCL again in the future

so..so...compare to RC by eraseratog

Sail date: / Traveled as: Large Group
Ship: Norwegian Getaway / Destination: Caribbean - Eastern

everytime you go to a cruise its always good because it is vacation, you are away from work.all the activity on norwegian getaway was very nice from the entertainment group...the cruise director and his staff was really good me and my family enjoy the activities and parties...as for food its not that great, they advertise free style dining,on paper its nice because they tell you they different restaurant to pick with but when you get there they all have the same menu so there is nothing to really pick and the food is not that great....and also everyday its the same food...for seven days same food over and over again..also you have to spend more money to eat good..all the better food they got onboard, you have to pay for it extra to eat it.....LAST THING THE BEVERAGE PACKAGE...you have to buy it for all the adults that stay on your stateroom,i would pay $350.00 dollars for me sure...but im not paying another $350.00 for my wife for the reason that she dont drink...i ask for it before we went to cruise and they said i cant buy if for my self its has to be for both of us...also all our reservation for dinner and shows was showing before we went to the boat but when its time to go our name wasnt on the reservation and i dont want to be those people that stands on line at the guest servicesand dispute something when im board the boat im on vacation nothing else....the boat is constanly late arriving on port of calls so our excursion was messed up but they are on time when we went back to miami though, its funny when its time to kick you out of the boat they are on time.....overall for me its a bad experience for my first time on norwegian, i guess back to RC.

Fantastic experience! by laurenmb

Sail date: / Traveled as: Couple
Ship: Norwegian Getaway / Destination: Caribbean - Eastern

This was my second time on a Norwegian cruise and it was even better than my first experience. The service was great, especially at our favorite bar and we enjoyed all of the nightly entertainment. There was so much to do that we were never bored. The food was really good whether we chose to eat at the buffet or at any of the specialty restaurants. I would certainly take another cruise with Norwegian!

Fabulous Cruise by proudgatormom

Sail date: / Traveled as: Couple
Ship: Norwegian Getaway / Destination: Caribbean - Eastern

We love Norwegian and the Getaway is an exceptional ship. We've sailed with most of the cruise lines, they're all nice in their own way, but I'm hooked on Norwegian.  Loved the atmosphere, shows, availability of different things to do, food, staff and rooms.  We had no issues getting a table for dinner (when we want, not told when to eat and with whom). No photographer following you around trying to get photos.  The photographers were polite and waited until you approached them. The ship is huge, but it feels cozy.  Getting on and off was a breeze.  Great ship for kids, with characters walking around the boat. Can't wait to take our grandchildren, they're going to go nuts for Dora and Diego!  This is our 5th cruise with Norwegian and we are making our way to platinum!

Our thanks has to go to Jackie Greenwood of who helped us get this very memorable birthday cruise for my husband and myself.

Decent time by zzuroweste1

Sail date: / Traveled as: Couple
Ship: Norwegian Getaway / Destination: Caribbean - Eastern

The cruise was decent...we had the "ultimate dinning package"  This was supposed to include ALL of the high end restaurants on board...and it was sold that way to us when we purchased.  This is NOT the case.  There are about 4-5 that are not included.  We felt mislead.  It wasn't until we tried to book them that we were told this would be an extra charge.  Not impressed by being mislead.  We were told to submit our receipts after for a credit.  I did that...and get an undeliverable message from the email.  They certainly make it tough to do the things that are promised at purchase.  Make sure you aren't mislead.

Thoroughly enjoyed the experience can't wait to do it again. We have told all of our friends about it and recommend the Norwegian Getaway. We enjoyed the cleanliness of the ship, the entertainment and courtesy of the staff. There was so much to do we could not do it all.

The Getaway! by msjcaron

Sail date: / Traveled as: Couple
Ship: Norwegian Getaway / Destination: Caribbean - Eastern

First of all, I would have to thank the Captain and crew for turning back to port when the ship had to take diversionary actions to avoid a stalled sailboat.   Safety is first and foremost and will not get any complaints for me or hubby.

The ship was beautiful and laid out in such a way that you never felt crowded.

My biggest complaint was the complimentary dining.  We have been on many Norwegian  cruises and have never been disappointed.  BUT this one was!...I was grateful that we had the ultimate dining package.   The meals in the specialty venues were outstanding.  The meals in Taste and Savor and Garden café were a huge disappointment.  The quality of the meals in those venues were not up to Norwegian's standards and I hope the company takes note of that.

But all in all..we had a great time and look forward to the next cruise.
