Greatest Cruise Ever by gherby

Sail date: / Traveled as: Large Group
Ship: Norwegian Getaway / Destination: Caribbean - Eastern

Kim Jones was our consultant and she did everything to make our cruise as pleasant and easy as possible.  The Norweigen Getaway was, after many years of cruising, hands down the best ship we've ever sailed on.

It was a family trip with our children and grandchildren and this ship has so many activities to do even if your not a sun bug.  It's the only cruise I ever remembered our cruise directors name.

First Cruise by mariak982

Sail date: / Traveled as: Couple
Ship: Norwegian Getaway / Destination: Caribbean - Eastern

The cruise was a nice way to take a first vacation. You could just book it and go. The ship was huge and had a lot of entertainment on board, the downside was the limited pool size but there were good water slides. I recommend all of the game shows in the Atrium - lots of fun - more adult friendly than PG rated.

The food was amazing at the main dining rooms - the salmon tartar and the chocolate volcano cake are a must! I was more than satisfied with going to the main dining rooms. We went to a specialty restaurant one night - Moderno - but I was not a fan - probably because I am not a fan of meat and this was a Brazilian Grill type place.

There was a good list of excursions that summarized the main attractions and it was helpful even if you were going to do your own thing. Also the daily newsletters were very nice. The downside was the short duration of some of the excursions.

If you are thinking about it you should try it out.

Best Family Vacation Yet! by crazedaze84

Sail date: / Traveled as: Family (young children)
Ship: Norwegian Getaway / Destination: Caribbean - Eastern

From stepping our feet onboard to getting off the ship, this has been the most amazing vacation ever. This was our third cruise (second with Norwegian). We knew kind of what to expect as far as cruises go. But the Getaway is in a class of its own. We were never bored at all, always something to do (at times it was exhausting). My son loved the rope course and rock climbing wall & also the mini golf. But of course his favorite was the kids area pool, it is SpongeBob themed and has all the characters statues and such with water spraying from them. We also loved the water slides.

The food was great from the Garden buffet (a little repetitive) but that is OK because it was good taste. The Flamingo buffet was also great with my favorite plantains,,yummmmm!!!! The restaurants we went to are Taste which was not good, Savor was amazing and the service was excellent. The noodle bar we went to twice because it was soooo good! We also did the Brazilian steak house which was like eating in heaven. We never had to wait long to get seated and we never made reservations, that is what is awesome about freestyle dining.

Our only complaint as adults would be that the adults only pool was not big enough, felt crowded and I hardly went in. I stayed in the hot tubes in which there is 4 to choose from.

Our server at the pool bar Roberto was the best, he always greeted us with the best smile and attitude and kept the drinks flowing. The drinks are very strong, they do not water anything down at all.

We stay in a balcony room that fit 4 people, it was very crammed it seemed with all the luggage. But we made it work. The balcony was kind of small for my liking, just wish that was bigger but we had a great view from the 9th floor. Our room steward Winnie was the sweetest person ever. She made towel animals for my son every night ad sometimes even in the afternoon she would make him one with a treat. The rooms were always clean and stocked with plenty of towels.

Wonderful Cruise Experience! by gmcfarland52

Sail date: / Traveled as: Couple
Ship: Norwegian Getaway / Destination: Caribbean - Eastern

It all started with a well coordinated baggage drop off.  From there we went to check in, which was as fast as one could fairly expect.  On board, our room was beautiful.  There was not a single crew member that was not cheerful and helpful. The shows were fun and there was always something to do.  A couple of cons for me was that there was only one very small swimming pool that was crowded.  Another con, and this may be an indication of my age, is that the dancing did not start until 11 pm, which is late after such a busy day.   The ports were fun and friendly.  In spite of the two cons, My wife and I are contemplating another cruise to the same place.  If not, then certainly we will use Norwegian for our next cruise.

Wonderful 7 night Caribbean cruise by bfoeldi

Sail date: / Traveled as: Family (young children)
Ship: Norwegian Getaway / Destination: Caribbean - Eastern

This was our second cruise on the Getaway within 60 days so that should say something by itself. My son loved the kids splash academy so much that he kept my wife and I up late every night trying to find more late night things to do without gambling to much. Nutella and Donut are awesome and my son now has new friends and he made sure we booked another cruise before we left the ship so he can come back. My son is 8 and we did the Disney Dream cruise 2 years ago and he says he will never go on another Disney cruise ever(thank you).He played in the dodge ball game, basketball game and ping pong tournament during the day. He also did the ropes course, rock wall and mini golf.  Best cruise for active families and the food was much better than Disney and the beds are amazing! The one bad thing was we didn't relax much because we were always doing something I think we need another vacation to relax from our first. People complain about the small pool and yes it is small but the thing I enjoyed was the kids stayed in the kid pool area with the slides and the other pool was only adults unlike the Disney pool. This ship has it all from restaurants to shows and activities. The service was hit and miss from good to excellent where Disney had great service always but I would rather have great food to enjoy. If you need the huge dinner party tables and fancy dress up nights you may be disappointed , because Norwegians do it freestyle!!Happy

The Getaway is a wonderful cruise experience and there is something for everyone.  Lots of activities, both indoor and outdoor.  The mix of destinations and sea days was just right.

First of all: The ship is great and offers many things for various tastes, except a nude sunbathing area (we have 2015!). Staff is amazing and proud of their job and really know how to treat customers.

Norwegian getaway perfect getaway by jmanwr46

Sail date: / Traveled as: Couple
Ship: Norwegian Getaway / Destination: Caribbean - Eastern

First off, from the day we booked with cruises only everything was awesome. Our travel organizer, hooked us up with all of the extras. Ultimate drinking package, on board credit, and was very helpful when our travel plans changed. Will book again through cruises only!! This cruise was the 3rd cruise I have been on, the second with Norwegian. The first cruise with Norwegian Dawn back in 2009 was good but the food was less than that. I'm happy to say that the Getaway's food was 1000 times better. The buffet was typical buffet food, hit or miss like any cruise buffet. The sit down restaurants and choices of food were where the food separated itself from the 2009 Norwegian Dawn. Everything had great flavor and cooked exactly how you wanted it and delivered by a smiling face. The rooms were nice, balconies were a little bit smaller than I am used to, but the rooms were still very nice. The pools were kind of a let down. There were only 2 pools, one of them was adults only which was nice, but was packed all day. It was nearly impossible to get a spot on a "Sea Day." There was a lot of deck space and chairs for sunbathing, this was the first cruise I had been on where you didn't have to worry about getting up at 6 am just to put a towel out so you had a space to tan. The casino was great all new slot machines, and tables. All in all a great cruise on a beautiful ship.

Norwegian Getaway Cruise by jtaze

Sail date: / Traveled as: Couple
Ship: Norwegian Getaway / Destination: Caribbean - Eastern

The ship was amazing. We don't have kids but this ship has a lot of active adult things to do along with a lot of things for the kids. The Water Slids were some of the best I've been on. The obstacle course was really cool and walking the plank was no joke. I wasn't impressed with Norwegian's food the last cruise I went on about 5 years ago but this time I was really impressed. Love the food. The staff was really helpful and very nice. The excursion's were packed with people but well done and fair price. My experience with Bookit was really awesome. I wasn't expecting that kind of customer service Marsha Hughes called me back a couple of times to see if everything was fine and if I had any questions. It's nice to see that kind of service now a days. The only complaint was I thought the games around the pool got a little to ronchy. I saw some parents leave with their kids. But other then that I highly recommend this cruise and definitely will use Bookit again.

Norwegian Getaway 2015 by luisvelezreales

Sail date: / Traveled as: Family (young children)
Ship: Norwegian Getaway / Destination: Caribbean - Eastern

My husband and I have cruised over 6 times, and we had cruised Norwegian once before (2004) when our children were younger. Norwegian has come a long way since then. The Getaway is in fact the Grandest ship we have been on. Royal Caribbean was our favorite in those days. Yet we aren't just impressed with the Vessel. The entire staff (except for the guest service man who ignored our plea for help with internet access) was exceptional. Let us begin by stating that a cruise director (in this case Mr. J.C. Sanchez) can make such a difference.  So many great activities. But the shows went far beyond our expectations.  Free style dining is a great way to cruise.  You actually choose among so many excellent Real Restaurants.  French, Italian, Japan Hibachi, Brazilian Steak house and so many others.  You can just go to the Buffet and have at it too. But we really felt we were on a floating small town.  I can go on and on but let us summarize the cruise with absolutely the best.  Now...to our shore excursions. Our ship went Miami, St. Thomas, Tortola, and Nassau.  In St. Thomas, the Catamaran sailing and snorkel was wonderful. In Tortola the Speed boat adventure was amazing (The Best!!). As for Nassau...you can keep it! I can best describe it as getting off the ship into a pool of piranhas!  From the moment you leave the security area they attach you from all angles almost to insult you for not braiding you hair or buying their trinkets.  The very worst was the "Glass bottom Kayak and Snorkel excursion" It was a run down double deck rusty boat that took forever to get us near a deserted little piece of land and by the time they untangled the Kayaks, and gave us smelly dirty life vests in was well over one and a half hours. For those who snorkeled we pity them. The snorkels and masks were taken right out of a trash container from the previous tour without sanitizing. Finally, if not because a "crew member" had chunks of bread we wouldn't even have seen any marine life except the 12 striped yellow and black "Sargent"fish that came to nibble on the bread. When returning us to the Getaway, the crew made us feel as though we were going to be taken somewhere else.  They circled the longest way back and then dropped us at the farthest point from the ship back in the heart of the shops.  So we had to weave back to the ship dripping wet and through the "piranhas" once more. Keep Nassau. Its no longer funky, it no longer has soul.

Too crowded, too young by rgblack

Sail date: / Traveled as: Couple
Ship: Norwegian Getaway / Destination: Caribbean - Eastern

Getaway is too large a ship for comfort.  There are lines everywhere, people, particularly with small children everywhere.  Not for the older traveler.  Food is actually better in the buffet than the restaurants where the food seems to suffer from overcooking and lack of imagination.  A new executive chef is in order or  perhaps a better food/cooking budget.  Music is all for the very young crowd, similar to Carnival, but Carnival is better, having at least one piano bar last time we sailed them.  The only saving grace was "Burn The Floor," which is the best onboard entertainment I've seen in over 20 years of cruising.  The other show "Legally Blonde" was marred by lousy acoustics and un-understandable lyrics.  Two shows are not enough, although perhaps the age of the audience might have something to do with it.  Paid shows are not a solution for cruising.  Sales pitches are everywhere and quite intrusive.  The Cruise Director is smarmy and very in-your-face, but aren't 90 percent of them.

Eastern Caribbean Cruise 2015 by rae4praise324

Sail date: / Traveled as: Couple
Ship: Norwegian Getaway / Destination: Caribbean - Eastern

First off Terri Whitmire-Silver is the best cruise consultant ever.  Love her!!!

Everything that was arranged went extremely smooth.  From the airport to the ship.  That is when we encountered a problem.  When we got on the ship we were entered into a beautiful room.  After we unpacked we were called and told we had to vacate the room as it was designated for handicapped and they had a person that was handicapped.  They gave two hundred dollars for onboard spending even though we told them we were not happy about the move after having unpacked.  The room we were sent to was much smaller than the one we vacated.

The cruise environment was different from what we were used to and very relaxed.  We did not have to get dressed for dinners nor did we have a set time to eat.  That was really nice.  Their were specialty resturants and I felt that only one was misrepresented. There was a few that had cover charges and a couple were a little pricey.

Overall the cruise was great.  I enjoyed myself and would go again on this cruise line.

NICE BUT COULD BE BETTER by jjesmirh

Sail date: / Traveled as: Couple
Ship: Norwegian Getaway / Destination: Caribbean - Eastern

We had a nice time, but pool side area could have more chairs.  Every time we were down around this area, chairs were reserved by someone all day, whether they were there are not, by leaving personal items on chair.

Also, no mention on printed Day info sheets,  what deck to go on for departure.

It would also be nice if acoustic sound would be better on Deck 7 above Atrium. Plenty of seating on Deck 7 but could not understand presentations coming from Atrium.

Inadequate by sgluckle

Sail date: / Traveled as: Family (young children)
Ship: Norwegian Getaway / Destination: Caribbean - Eastern

Just got back from cruise Saturday. Over all experience was disappointing. The food in non specialty dining was very much the same, nit gourmet quality and notgood presentation. The pools were very disappointing, they were very small for the size of ship and amount of people on the ship. The slides were nice but a very long line to get on it. The casinos very smokey. The bars had long lines and hard to get service, not enough people working for size of the ship. We had three rooms one balcony, one suite that was exactly like the balcony room accept fir the shower. My nephew was suppose to get a cork and cap oackage included and it ended up costing 385 or so because no one new what they were talking about, over all very disappointed in quality of food and pools.

Our Anniversary , ..with the kids and grand children. by Eurohiker

Sail date: / Traveled as: Family (older children)
Ship: Norwegian Getaway / Destination: Caribbean - Eastern

Overall the trip was excellent. The ship left on time and returned an hour early. We had scheduled late afternoon flights to return home. If we did it again we would take earlier flights. The ship allows you to disembark by groups (early 7:30-8:00 am on through to late 9:30 am ) and the airport is about 30-45 minutes away.

Our family group numbered 12. One child is handicapped and I must say that the on board care provided by the staff at the Splash Academy was excellent.

As a group, the dining staff where also able to accommodate us either at a large table for 12 or at two tables of 6 each (adults and children)

The house keeping staff also provided excellent service for all of us.

This was our second cruise with Norwegian and it was even better than the first! We participated in more of the events on board the ship and ate at more of the restaurants. The food was superb and the entertainment was excellent! We can't wait for our next cruise, and we were able to book it on board!

Great Getaway on the Getaway! by abnpfd

Sail date: / Traveled as: Couple
Ship: Norwegian Getaway / Destination: Caribbean - Eastern

We have been on different cruise lines that offer so much glitz and glitters but the real fireworks are on Norwegian Getaway! The ship was huge and lots of things to do except the pool was too small and always crowded. Entertainment was good, staff are friendly and plenty of things to do on board. Most dining and shows required reservations but it's always easy to booked up with no long lines. Food was good and staff are always happy and friendly service.
