Review summary

A good cruise with a lot of fees. Typical cruise-not enough seats near pools. Ship was at max capacity, and seemed understaffed at times.

Embarkation

3 out of 5
Slow, arrived at 10am, boarded around 1

Ship experiences

Food and Dining

3 out of 5
Plenty of restaurants on the boat. Sometimes food was cold and service was slow. We ate at specialty restaurant a la carts and it was definitely not worth the money. Limited non meat options during Ash Wednesday and Friday’s for Catholics.

Onboard Activities

4 out of 5
Lots of things to do-ropes course, on board activities, pools

Entertainment

3 out of 5
Million Dollar Quartet show was good/not great. Boat was full so seats were at a premium for everything that you wanted to do.

Service and Staff

4 out of 5
Room steward was good and tended to our room twice a day. Windows on balcony were dirty and balcony had paint chips on it throughout cruise.

Ship Quality

4 out of 5
Inside was clean and well maintained.

Cabin / Stateroom

4 out of 5
We fit 4 in this room. At times it was a little tight. One smaller tv in the room and limited tv channels.

Ports of call

New York, New York

I'm going on Getaway in April out of Port Canaveral. I hope the fact that it took 3 hours to board isn't the norm. That's ridiculous and I won't be very happy.

I say a ship is not a boat. With all of what goes on a ship, it's not easy at times. The pool area is small due to all the slides as the Breakaway. Dining: Next time when you book, order for your dietary needs or speak to the Maitre D. Thousands of people who need a certain type of diet or do not eat meat during Lent or on Fridays, they do not know who eats what. Specialty Dining: We do not eat in those restaurants anymore. When we took a cruise on the Norwegian Spirit in 2007, we ate in Cagney's 2X because we celebrated our birthdays and anniversary. It was $25.00 per person. It's way too expensive and eating in the MDR is better and the cost of the cruise includes it. Boarding: Very surprised it took too long and I'd be annoyed, too. Hope when we embark at will go smoothly. We haven't cruised since October 2019 on the Escape to Bermuda. On this note, hope you had a good cruise. Not everything is 100%.

Appreciate your detailed feedback. Glad you enjoyed your cruise in spite of the hiccups.

We like the Getaway. We also find the carribbean cruises over booked on all cruise line due to the way they count. Fully booked is all rooms booked assuming 2 to a room. Cruises will be overbooked until all cruise lines count passengers, not cabins. As a mom of 4 boys, we always enjoyed a cruise vacation for our family. Many great memories.
