Review summary

Didn't realize NCL had lowered dress code standards as much as they have and changing our itinerary at the last moment, spoiled the cruise for us. On day 2 was preparing to pay $1000 deposit for future cruises, but cancelled the idea by day 5 because of the above. We doubt we will cruise again with NCL

Ship tip

Don't take nice clothes !!!! Our biggest complaint was lack of dress codes. Shorts, t-shirts and flip flops should not be allowed in dining rooms for evening dinner

I love the choice of dressing up, or just casual, thats one of the reasons we sail NCL

The itinerary was changed in one port because it was unsafe to tender guests. That’s the cruise line looking out for you. Perhaps the other port is still reeling from the effects of Hurricane Fiona just weeks before and there was an unexpected, unavoidable, last minute turn of events. Unfortunate for everyone as you were looking forward to the visit for your vacation and the islanders were looking forward to the income as tourism is a large part of their industry. As for how others dress, NCL has been freestyle cruising for years. If you look around you on land, all manners of dress have relaxed considerably. That is certainly going to carry over to vacation, especially on one as relaxing and laid back as cruise should be. If you want to dress up, go for it! - we love to people watch and admire those who dress up. But I am a Florida girl and believe there is a flip flop for every occasion - the dressy ones are sparkly. 🙃 Hope you sail on NCL again, because I have yet to find a better staff and crew than the one on NCL!

Ncl has always had the freestyle and that includes clothing attire, my husband loves it doesn't have the pressure to dress up.

NCL has been freestyle cruising for a long time and casual dress too. Most folks like the idea so they don't have to worry about missing dinner. Don't worry about what people wear, just have fun!

Don’t worry about what others are wearing, which doesn’t affect you in the least. I love NCL because it’s “Freestyle.” I don’t like dressing up at dinner, unless it’s a specialty restaurant.

Sorry you were disappointed.

We were just on the NCL Escape on an Italy and Greek Isles cruise and the freestyle daily said resort casual was accepted at almost every restaurant now which I was surprised at. However there was still a real mix of dress from very smart to very casual so a lot of people still prefer to dress nice. I don’t really care what other people wear, but we still dressed nicer for dinner at the MDR and especially for specialty.

We love ncl but have noticed on ncl and royal some guest are dressing beyond casual. I will still sail with ncl because i like the experience. I hope they will revisit the dress code. Fyi, in Europe guest dress better. I think some of the casual dress is driven by the carribbean vibe.

Another person on the same trip said the canceled ports were due to wind, that they could not see.
