Review summary

Due to severe weather trip needed to reroute- while this was unavoidable- communication from Norwegian was terrible. Moving from warm weather to cold weather port required different packing Storm was known about for days in advance and 0 communication from Norwegian until late the night before leaving. Customer service agents were unhelpful and unpleasant- hung up on 2x asking for supervisor No issue emailing for additional items offering upgrades but 0 communication about severe weather and rerouting requiring different Covid travel requirements

Just a friendly reminder for all those "smart and sophisticated" travelers who claim it was the author's fault he didn't pack for all possible occasions: 1. This was supposed to be a VACATION, a.k.a. fun, relaxation, and enjoyment, not a project on how to overcome any hardships and obstacles that threaten to ruin it. 2. There are first-time travelers who aren't that seasoned and sophisticated, who don't spend every second for days on end before sailing, monitoring the weather. 3. That's correct, that the storm was known 4 days ahead, but one would assume that if NCL hasn't reached out with a warning or even an assumption about the possibility of itinerary change, it means the storm is not expected to impact this particular cruise. 4. That's also correct that NCL is unable to control nature and sometimes rerouting is unavoidable. But wouldn't you agree that a bona fide business that values and respects its customers would offer an equivalent or, at least, comparable replacement? In what universe does sailing to some random Canadian port in cold weather and getting back through the backwashes of the same storm, provide the same value for money as sailing to Bermuda, both financial and experience-wide? 5. NCL uses all possible legal casuistry, chicanery, and fine print, to twist and interpret their terms and conditions in a way that you as a customer, are never right. They hold their customers and / or their money hostages just because they can, and that is a total lack of integrity.

I was on the Escape in March when the ship ran aground deporting our 1st port in the DR. The whole scenario was for lack of better terms a $@“!show!! The communication was TERRIBLE and the ship should of never left without tugs! Even with tugs would of been challenging since we had at least 30knot winds! Anyhow it was a nightmare the way they Communicated. Setting off fire announcements(but there was no fire) all the employees were promising something different telling you things like when you land at the Orlando at the airport Norwegian representatives will greet you and get you a room. Definitely wasn’t the case at all.. They dropped off passengers at the DR port some elderly for hours in the heat waiting on a flight that evening. They would announce over head one set of directions then put a whole different set of instructions under your door. We were trying to ask questions in the main area to employees but they were just as confused as we were! One lady arrived to our charter flight at the airport without her luggage because they weren’t telling you that you had to grab your luggage and load it on the bus yourself. Ugh.. I don’t want to go through that again!

The reviewer said themselves that the rerouting was unavoidable. They understood that. They were specifically calling out the poor communication. It's being told late the night before that the ports were changing from a warm weather environment to a cold one that they are saying is a negative. Changing ports in hurricane season is understandable. Being told late the night before that you need to repack for cold weather is unacceptable, especially for those flying in to the embarkation location.

The reason September prices are so cheap in the Caribbean is because of hurricane season. That’s the chance you take booking then.

I'm sorry to hear this Bad timing for cruise during this season your travel agent or a average cruiser would have told you. I would get a travel agent and travel insurance . Next time this is the reason why your cruise was cheaper than normal there's always a catch. Hurricane season its a hit or miss an looks like you got hit sorry . Ncl is not the blame it's mother nature's fault. Thanks for sharing 👍

You choose to cruise during hurricane session, so you need to be prepared for change in itinerary

Sorry communication wasn’t what you expected.

You yourself said the storm was known 4 days ahead, so why didn't you pack accordingly? You knew in advance, why was it the cruiselines responsibility to tell you what to pack?? Cruising during hurricane season is always a risk, you should have been prepaired.

Maybe best to pack for itinerary change if cruising during hurricane season, especially if you know a huge storm is coming.

Thanks for the review. It’s always a risk cruising during hurricane season. The storms can change track often, so the Cruise Line does not know until 24 hours, or possibly less, before leaving as to how their itinerary will be affected.
