In all the cruise was ok. Lots of cancelled ports and events, this coupled with some bad service, poor quality food made things very disappointing. Will not go on Getaway again.

Food and Dining

Firstly, Cagney's speciality was great and Le Bistro was outstanding. Unfortunately that was not the case in the Tropicana restaurant. We arrived at 8:45pm and wait staff where clearing up around us. Service was basically anyone who was nearest to take orders. Food was Lukewarm and disappointing. One of our party has a massive dislike to butter. The waiter was told and arrived as all main dishes where being served to say that not one dish could be made without butter, so she didn't eat. We didn't bother to go again. O'sheehans served us children's fish fingers instead of Fish & Chips without any explanation.
The H2O bar was appalling. Drinks were either so watery you couldn't drink it or so strong in Alcohol that it needed extra mixers. Strangely, if you went to the bar and left a tip the drinks were fine. Lastly, we where greeted at the Waves bar on Embarcation day by the most abrupt, rude bar staff I have ever met. So much so we didn't go to Waves for the rest of the cruise. Very disappointed.
Onboard Activities

Our biggest complaint was our invisible cruise director, Simon Worldwide aka Lord Lucan. On 10 days onboard we didn't see h once. The Glow party was an embarrassment. Pumping Rap and hip,hop medleys to a crowd of 90% over 50's. No Lord Lucan, no atmosphere. The after party held at H2O was a pre-recorded Rap & hip hop with not one staff member.
Entertainment

DJ had to be playing pre-recorded tunes. A cruise with mostly over 50's and all you could hear was Rap compilations. Nothing that could appeal to the audience.
The band in Syd Norman's were outstanding and the Fleetwood Mac tribute was the best I've seen at sea.
Million Dollar Quartet was also fantastic. Thankfully these two shows saved the cruise.
Service and Staff

Our cabin Steward Mariaflores was great. Manu the Indian waiter in Savor was fantastic, friendly and very humble. Wait staff in the main dining where just going through the motions.
The waiters by H2O where really good.
Ship Quality

The design is awful, of all the NCL ships we have been on, This was our least favourite. The main pool area is a disaster, small, cramped areas virtually impossible to find space on a ship with only 1700 passengers (usually 4,000). The layout of public spaces is all over the place. Lower decs 6,7 & 8 are better. Way too much space on the upper decs has been taken away to accommodate the Haven areas.
The ship was very clean.
Cabin / Stateroom

Standard Balcony on Breakaway class ship. Stupid design of the wardrobe placement as you had to squeeze between a settee to access the wardrobe doors.
Bathroom was great and plenty of room inside. The balcony could not be any smaller.
Ship tip
If you want the best possible upper deck experience, get Vibe beach club passes. We did this on Joy and it was the best $200 we have spent. Private area, adults only, private bar, cushioned sunbeds etc...
Sorry you didn’t enjoy yourself. We were in the Getaway a few years ago and loves it. Was the beach In Curaçao nice and we’re their options to rent chairs , also to buy food and drinks?
