Review summary

They were refinishing the decks mid Cruise in one of only three smoking sections which made it difficult to get to others, the staff was not accommodating, the service sucked, and there was not one impressive thing about this ship. I will never sail NCL again

From the time we got to the port it was a mess. Difficulty in parking, construction everywhere... Difficulty checking luggage it was just a mess. People with us we're unable to verify their Cabin numbers and staff had great difficulty in figuring it out themselves.

From what I understand the specialty tiny was very good, unfortunately we didn't have any of that and the food offerings included in the cruise left a lot to be desired

I've never had worst service on a cruise ship. I suspect the 18% required gratuity for bar staff kept them from working for their money and our cabin steward didn't show up half the time so much for prepaid gratuities

Well as the cruise coordinator with 100 guests you got to go free anyway so I can’t find any reason to complain about that :-)

And while I don't think they should be non-smoking or confined to a room... I try really hard to conform to any smoking regulations. I have no problem going to a specific location because I am a very considerate smoker... As for the hundreds of cruises yes... Hundreds I'm in my 50s... and yes I have also done a much more in depth review and submitted it to NCL... As the group coordinator I do that each time to ensure that every part of our event is covered.

Sorry you had such a bad time, Hundreds of cruises? 100 people on one cruise, maybe such a big group is not easy to accommodate at one time at the port? As for the smoking I wish all cruises were non smoking so my lungs don't suffer someone else's habit. I don't mean this as an offense to you personally, but to all smokers in general. I wish the cruise lines had a single room, and only place, with smoke eaters therein where smokers can go away from the crowds to so their thing and hurt themselves and not us, just like the cigar lounge. I have been on this ship 3 times last year without troubles, again sorry you lost your cruise by focusing on the negative. If I ever have a negative situation I write to the hotel manager forthwith, and of course make a note of it on a review platform as you did. But hundreds of cruises? How old are you to have hundreds of cruises? I believe a real cruiser aways finds the gold no matter how bad the cruise was. Happy cruising on you next adventure.

VickiNitt—I think it’s because you found fault with everything and most of us have actually sailed this ship and know better. A cruise is very subjective and everyone has their own perspective. So sorry yours is just so negative.

Not wishing anything but a great trip for everybody else... Mine sucked... Why is that so problematic for you? They asked for my opinion and I gave it. The reason it shows one cruises because I just joined shipmate and I haven't added anything else and with all this sucky retaliation I'm sure it will be my last one posted here because God knows nobody wants a real f****** review

martinmanorsurplus, I do recall the pool being repainted... Been on 5 ships in the last few weeks so wasn’t 100% it was the Getaway... I recall standing and admiring their handy work... Think the only time we were on a ship with no maintenance was when we sailed on the brand new Escape.. I bet they were working on her behind the scenes... I don’t smoke these days but wouldn’t ban it, some of our friends smoke... I’d just make sure it was at the back so the pollutants and smell don’t effect those who don’t like it, especially kids.. Don’t think it’s too much to ask...

LobsterPot... I was on the same 14 day TA cruise.. I agree the ship was in very good shape. Though if you remember the pool was out for a few days as they refinished and painted it. But it wasnt a huge deal since it was chilly for that part of the cruise. ALL ships go through routine maintenance during cruises as needed. Especially outter decks. Its not a big deal and you move around them. As for smoking... yea I agree it should just be banned on ships period. There is no way to prevent the smoke from traveling to non smoking areas, and I know people who are seriously alergic to smoke. I also agree in the Getaway is WAY better than the top review implies... by a long shot!

VickiNutt... We took the 14 day from Copenhagen that brought the ship over to Miami... the ship was in A1 condition from our perspective. Service on board was excellent and the food significantly better the the other ships we’ve sailed this year. Do you not consider the rights & well-being of the folks who don’t smoke? They have no way to properly avoid that particular smoking area, the ‘cage’ is probably the only reason smoking is permitted on that deck at all. Smoking should always be focused at the rear of cruise ships to minimise its impact on non smoking guests... I wouldn’t say we ‘love the Getaway’ but it’s way better than your review implies...

Im 50/50 on the Getaway and NCL as well.... though I thought the ship was nice, and food on the buffet was really good.. otherwise, the balcony room looked nice, but very small, tight hallways, congested walways on top decks... Im excited to go on the Oasis class ships with RC and see what we think about them!

Sailed the Getaway 2 yrs ago....all I can say is spectacular. Right from embarkation to disembarking. Couldn’t find a thing to complain about if we tried. We did the Escape this past May it it was stellar also. Booked on the getaway in May of 18!!

100's of cruises? Wow. One of the worst. We did the Getaway in 2015 and will do this ship again in 2018. Loved the ship.

With all do respect, I think this ship was great, staff, service, food, etc. I’m going to bet your frustration stems from the lack of smoking accommodations. I have cruised with Carnival and RC, all where good, but NCL has been the best so far. I hope you have a better time on your next trip.

Anyone reading this may have second thoughts on the Getaway. DO NOT this OPs review scare you! Not sure why she was so negative about one of the best ships at sea. There will always be someone out there that will write negative reviews for absolutely no reason. Some are just internet trolls and they are fake reviews. Others genuinely have a negative impression of a ship. But take into account that this ship has rave reviews. This is just one persons skewed perspective.

VickiNitt I am not one to criticize however I have to disagree. All and I mean all of the comments from travel agencies to even other cruises not associated with NCL stated other than the Oasis of the Sea is the best cruise ship on the water. I am sorry you were not pleased but each to there own. I personally won’t cruise with any other cruise line. You indicated you have been on hundreds o cruises and find this the worst. However when you were asked how many cruises you were on you I believe only showed one. Don’t quite understand that. Anyway happy cruising with the others.

Wow! I have to wonder if we sailed the same ship! After 5 Carnival and 2 RCCL cruises, I tried this NCL ship and it was the BEST ship I’ve ever sailed! NCL has by far the BEST complimentary and Specialty restaurant and food choices! The service was ALWAYS top notch. Yes, NCL’s cabins are some of the smallest, but who spends their time in a cruise in their cabin? Not me! I really don’t know what your issue was. I saw you rated Harvest Caye a poor score too. As I said—its all perspective.
