Sail Date: May 01, 2014 Ship:Norwegian Getaway Cabin Type: Suite Traveled As: Family (older children) Reviewed: 4 years ago
This was our first time on a newer ship and it was wonderful! I am now spoiled by the mini-suite with large balcony room.
Food and Dining

The dining rooms were great (3 main dining rooms) and the food wasn't bad. I seem to remember it being better (last cruise was 5 years ago) but I also believe they are being a bit more health conscious by using less salt. We also enjoyed O'Sheehans for breakfast\, lunch\, and dinner some days and it was good too. We didn't go to any of the specialty dining options this time. We had nine people usually dining together so we made reservations so it was easy to get us all seated together.

There are more activities on this ship than we've ever seen. Several water slides\, mini-golf\, big trampoline\, rock climbing wall\, huge sports court\, great kids pool area\, and the ropes course with the \"walk the plank\" and a zip line. Walking the plank 8' over the side of the ship is quite an experience. If you are not afraid of heights\, it's worth doing. There is a rope towards the end so you can take your picture. There are good spots by the mini-golf where someone can get your own picture as well. We went to Burn the Floor and Legally Blonde and both were great. We also went to the Illusionarium and the show was great. The food was pretty good but it's a set menu and some people didn't like not having a choice.

My daughter is 16 and even though she had a couple friends with her on this cruise\, they all enjoyed the teen club. There were daily activities and gave them plenty to keep busy.
Service and Staff

All of the staff were really friendly and always asking if there was anything they could do. Our room steward was excellent!

All the decor was great and there were murals all over the outside of the ship. There are more balcony rooms on this ship than I have ever seen. Ours was a large balcony and could easily fit two lounge chairs\, two regular chairs\, and a table with room to spare. It was very easy to get around and didn't take too long to figure out where everything was even though it was a huge ship. The one thing lacking is the jogging track. There are posted jogging times to try to limit the traffic but based on the ship layout\, if you are a serious runner\, it is a short loop and people can get in your way easily. There are so many outdoor activities that there wasn't much room left for this feature.
Cabin / Stateroom

Our mini-suite had lots of room for the three of us. The sofa converts to a bed and there was also a pull down bunk above it for a fourth person. My daughter thought the sofa was too hard so our room steward pulled down the bunk for her and it was better. The bathroom was bigger than ours at home (yes\, ours at home is pretty small but was impressive for a cruise ship!) The shower was large and had body sprays! There was lots of storage and the closet was a good size. There is plenty of room under the bed to store luggage. Don't forget to check every nook and cranny since there are so many storage options before you leave. My daughter left some clothes under the sofa (two big drawers) and we are still waiting to find out if they find them. Lost and Found said there were more items left on our cruise then any he'd ever seen before!
