Review summary

Getaway is too large a ship for comfort.  There are lines everywhere, people, particularly with small children everywhere.  Not for the older traveler.  Food is actually better in the buffet than the restaurants where the food seems to suffer from overcooking and lack of imagination.  A new executive chef is in order or  perhaps a better food/cooking budget.  Music is all for the very young crowd, similar to Carnival, but Carnival is better, having at least one piano bar last time we sailed them.  The only saving grace was "Burn The Floor," which is the best onboard entertainment I've seen in over 20 years of cruising.  The other show "Legally Blonde" was marred by lousy acoustics and un-understandable lyrics.  Two shows are not enough, although perhaps the age of the audience might have something to do with it.  Paid shows are not a solution for cruising.  Sales pitches are everywhere and quite intrusive.  The Cruise Director is smarmy and very in-your-face, but aren't 90 percent of them.

The new ships have reduced the size of the verandah staterooms to the stage they are difficult to move about and the storage is even more limited than it used to be.

Ship tip

There are lines everywhere for every meal except in the buffet.

Is this labeled as a mega ship??!

Don,t take me wrong. I have 12 cruises behind me and can not wait for my next one in 46 days. There is a huge difference betwen midsize and megaships. And sometimes in port you just want to grab quick breakfast and need to be ar a meeting place for your excurtion. In this case dining room breakfast will not work.

I have been on the Epic as well as other lines and larger ships. Please ignore the complainers. It is not bad. I mean if you go to the buffet at 930 for breakfast, yes it's nuts but never lines. Most people do not realize you can skip the buffet completely and enjoy breakfast in the dining room. Don't listen to the reviews. If people want to be secluded then do not go on a cruise. It's that simple

Agree with you. I had similar experience with Epic. Too noisy, too difficult to find available table in the morning, lines everywhere, unruly kids even in adults only zone. Swimming pool and jacuzzi always filled with kids. Food was good but as you already mentioned in better in buffet than in dinner. Have to admit new Brazil steakhouse was excellent.
