A great way to bring the family together

Sail Date: January 01, 2015

Reviewed: 1 year ago

Traveled As: Family (older children)

Room Type: Inside

Mom cruised to celebrate her 90th birthday with her husband and all of their children and a grandchild\, 10 in all. Each night we all ate together even though we changed restaurants to have variety and try some of the specialty spots. We varied time to be able to see all of the big shows and even asked for a faster meal one night when the schedule was especially tight. The crew was able to seat us together and serve us despite our special needs\, two gluten free meals and most of the time our expectations were exceeded even though we had some well-seasoned travelers in the group.

Pros: Freestyle dining able to handle a group of 10 each night for dinner.

Cons: The Ocean Blue restaurant was our biggest disappointment.

Recommends Norwegian Getaway? Yes!

Ship Quality
Very clean\, new ship.
The sound on deck was sometimes so loud\, it made it difficult to be near the pool. This is a floating city and it is hard to find a place away from a crowd.
Food and Dining
The food at Ocean Blue was a big disappointment. While the service was impeccable there\, I had overcooked shrimp and other dishes were poorly put together. My lobster risotto was one of the few positive items we ate there. All of the other restaurants were wonderful\, both the extra cost Teppanyaki and Tropicana with shows and dancing. We enjoyed Savor and Taste as well. There was always something good to eat at the buffet as well.
Cabin / Stateroom
We chose a tiny inside room that was adequate\, but the upper bunks made it difficult to get to the side of the bed in the queen configuration. We loved the shower and appreciated the temperature control.
Service and Staff
Everyone was always smiling and helpful. They went beyond our expectations when at 1:30 PM on the day of our reservation for the magic show dinner\, Mom asked us to cancel due to an experience she had at the venue during the wine lunch and they let us move to Tropicana even though we did not keep to the 24 hour cancellation rule.
Entertainment
There was something to keep us busy every night. The high quality big shows were expected. We were very happy with the dueling piano show that ran for hours with three players taking turns in pairs. Drew was a hoot!
