Best Vacation Ever!

We had wanted to take a cruise for years--and this was an excellent first-time experience. The food was amazing, the stateroom and common areas were all beautiful and kept immaculate at all times, the staff treated us like friends & family, the shore excursions were fun and educational....what's not to love? I particularly enjoyed the numerous opportunities for on-board activities even though we had no kids along--we walked a mile every morning, used the fitness center, played Bingo, went snorkeling, attended wine tastings, went dancing, sang Karaoke, played the (somewhat embarrassing but highly entertaining) Not-So-Newlywed game--also, the evening shows were spectacular--of the sort we would pay $50 or $75 for at home. If you have any capacity whatsoever for fun, this cruise is right for you. For the less-active types there are also quiet game/card rooms, a spa, and a library--literally something for everyone.

Pros: Personable staff---many learned our names the first day!

Cons: Going home :(

Recommends Norwegian Gem? Yes!

Ship Quality
Extremely clean, we even saw crew members sanding & oiling salt from the railings (which were not that bad to begin with). Obviously a very high priority is placed on maintenance and housekeeping. The decor is lovely, as well.
Food and Dining
The Brazilian restaurant is not to be missed! Main (included) dining rooms were also excellent, and the option to eat when & where we wanted was fantastic.
Cabin / Stateroom
Even though it was very clean, the toilet was a little smelly toward the end of the cruise...not sure if that can be helped but the common restrooms didn't seem to have this problem.
Service and Staff
Herbert was our steward on Deck 10--he took such great care of us!
Entertainment
Never had so much fun in my life.
