My overall impressions of the Norwegian Gem were absolutely amazing and stunning. I couldn't believe how big the ship was. I have never been on a cruise before, this was such an amazing adventure. We did have some bad weather, waves or something the first night there, it was really rocky or wavy, it was the only day traveling East, (from Barcelona to Italy), other than that it was a very smooth cruise.
Overall, it was a vacation to beat by far, it was the most amazing vacation i have ever taken, I have never been on a cruise before nor have ever been to Europe before. very very nice.
i did Florence and Pisa, it was raining horribly in Pisa, but you're only there for about 1h 30 m to take some quick pics by the leaning tower and then onto Florence, Florence was very nice as well. You will not be able to do this on your own, these cities are over an hour ride from the port, more like 1.5 hours.
Sicily was nice, i did the 'Mt. Etna and Tauromina' excursion, Tauromnia is a very nice a small village to see, then we went to Mt. Etna for the 2nd half of the day. i actaully go to walk on the volcano and inside some of the craters. not everyday you get to drive up, through and walk in or on a volcano.
France was the most beautiful place i have ever seen, especailly the couple hours in Monte Carlo, Monaco. I am planning on taking a vacatino to Monaco since it was so amazing. Don't miss out on Monaco, you'll be talking about it for hte rest of your life.
take the 'Highlights of Monaco and Nice" very nice tour
i did the Amalif Coast and Pompeii,
the Amalfi Coast is so amazing and breathtaking, this was one of my favorite tours to take, Pompeii was more historic looking at all the ruins, but also good to see, Don't miss out on the Amalfi Coast.
I think it is best to do Rome on your own, not any of the excursions, take the free bus provided by Norwegian from the ship to the end of the port (since the port is industrial). take the metro to Rome, 20-30 min to Rome, i saw the vatican, sistine chapel, Coloseum, Trevi fountain, Pantheon, Roman Forum and so much more,
i suggest NOT taking an excursion if you want to see EVERYTHING, i have never been to Rome before and don't know when i'll have the chance to return so i wanted to see everything, none of the excursions offer everything becuase it would take 3 days, be aware you do have to walk or run in some cases, a ton in order to see EVERYTHING.
