Disapointed Free Style Cruising on NCL

Sail Date: January 01, 2010

Reviewed: 7 years ago

Traveled As: Couple

Room Type: Balcony

In general, the stateroom and steward we had on this trip was probably the worst we've ever had. While freestyle dining is a plus, if you want better food you're encouraged to go to one of the many speciality restaurants; each with an incremental service fee ranging from $10 to $25 each. Everything on the ship seem to be ala carte.

Pros: Flexible Dining Times

Cons: Stateroom

Recommends Norwegian Gem? No.

Ship Quality
Food and Dining
The speciality restaurants were above average. The Bistro French restaurant was the best we tried.
Cabin / Stateroom
The stateroom steward never introduced himself. He had problems keeping everything stocked on a daily basis;i.e., face cloths, towels, coffee used. The room itself was poorly lighted. Very little network television avaialble when in the room.
Service and Staff
Everone was very polite and helpful. I would prefer to give gratuities directly rather than having a fixed amount deduced daily.
The professional entertainment was pretty good. Myn one disappointment was that there were no shore excursions available for the handicapped. Frankly, just getting out of the cold weather was a plus anyway.
