Not as expected.

We recently sailed on the Norwegian Gem. Disappointed with the service and quality. Last year, we went on Royal Caribbean and extremely satisfied. We knew the ship is new, but had no idea what to expect. The communications on the ship were poor. Listed certain restaurants open to a cetain times, but were not the case. Grand Pacific is the only lunch dining room facility and closes promptly at 1:30 for lunch. Have to use the Garden Cafe for most of our lunch dining times. Extremely crowded in departing at most ports. No lounge chairs at swimming pools. The facilities closes early, for eg. the waterslides closes at 6 pm. Only certain hours at basketball courts and wall climbing. Not at all happy with the services provided on the ship.

Pros: Port-Nassau, Bahamas. Love Paradise Island, went swimming with the dolphins.

Cons: Poor communication on the ship. extremely crowded on swimming pools area. no lounge chairs, waited over 1 hour on dining rooms.

Recommends Norwegian Gem? No.

Food and Dining
Food quality is great. However, the convenience of dining with freestyle is not at all possible. Waiting time is over 1 hr at most of the "non-specialty" dining rooms, which is what we used.
Cabin / Stateroom
Clean stateroom. Small and with no frills. The small pull-up bed under the bed was terrible. The steward had to spend some time as it appears to be defective.
Service and Staff
Most ot the staff were willing to help and extremely friendly.
Ship Quality
Nice ship size, but layout is terrible. The access to certain places were difficult to get to.
Nassau, Bahamas
went to Paradise Island excursions, had a wonderful time
Don't Miss: Dolphin Cay is gorgeous. The service and time well spent. The entire family swim with the dolphins.
Great Stirrup Cay (Cruiseline Private Island), Bahamas
beach was beautiful, but extremely crowded. No lounge chairs to be found.
Port Canaveral, Florida
Went to Disney World for the shore excursion, highly recommend, as we were on the ship for two days. Did a lot in Orlando.
Don't Miss: Disney World is a must see
Freeport, Grand Bahama Island
Nothing is there, just the straw market, which is approximately 5 stores under a big tent.
