An enjoyable experienc

Traveled As: Couple

Room Type: Oceanview

The bars were crowded on the Dawn because they have entertainers (professional & guests) ouside the Stardust Room. Not so on the Gem. You have to find them in other areas of the ship. It's not easily accessible.
Your gambling casino is in dire need of proper ventilation. Those of us who don't smoke are unable to stay in there. In fact, it's nauseating just walking through to get to the show. The shops are not as large as on the Dawn, and the jewelry is not marketed properly. There s no movie theatre, and the movies on TV were from the year 1.

Pros: The staff was very friendly and helpful, with the exception of 2 saleswomen in the gift shops. They had attitude problems, and were not guest-friendly until 1of them was told she was going to be written up. Our staterooms were clean, and the dining room staff was pleasant.

Cons: We prefer the NCL Dawn for several reasons. In the dining room and buffet area, staff reached in front of you to serve food, pour hot coffee from a carafe, and remove dirty dishes. Debris fell into my food/drink.I also don't want to get burned.Shows are poor & piano players are terrible.

Recommends Norwegian Gem? No.

Ship Quality
The lay-out of the ship is comparable to other ships. We found public areas to be kept clean.
Disappointing entertainment. The few singers and dancers on stage were clumsy. One 30-minute act per night, i.e. a magician or a juggler- who were both good, does not qualify as a full show. We've seen expanded shows on other ships.
Food and Dining
Don't lean over guests to serve and clean-up. Food was good, dining times
are convenient, except, if you just want to get a cup of tea at night, you have to go to the 8th floor and have waitress service. You can't just get it on your own. "Lobster Night" was at the end of the cruise, and 1 small tail

came on a dish with other sea-food. Please don't call it "lobster night". However, the "Chocolate Buffet" was spectacular. and food in the buffet and dining rooms were presented beautifully. Trays should be offered in the buffet area.
Cabin / Stateroom
Staterooms are clean and comfortable. Bathrooms are small. Matresses, pillows and comforters were very comfortable.
Service and Staff
With the exception of 2 shop-women, 1 in the liquor storeand 1 in the gift shop.
Charlotte Amalie, St. Thomas
If you take a scheduled tour on St. Thomas, you don't have time to shop before having to re-board the ship. In general, some tour guides on the different islands are terrific and others were just bus drivers. All of our tours were booked throught he ship. The tour staff was extremely helpful.
St. John's, Antigua
St. George's, Grenada
Roseau, Dominica
Road Town, Tortola, B.V.I.
Bridgetown, Barbados
