The cruise was wonderful

Room Type: Balcony

If you live in Manhattan as we do, leaving from New York City was a big factor in booking this cruise. The ship is very big but if you walk alot you won't mind. The stateroom with a balcony was very nice. The clothing space was adequate. The bathroom and shower area was ok. All the ship employees were very friendly and helpful. The entertainment was excellent. The cruise ports were ok except for Freeport which we felt was "what for". Eliminating Freeport and adding Key West would add to this cruise. The big screen TV on deck 7 is wonderful. Watching the Giant New England football game and the ball coming down on New Years Eve were a great experience. Freestyle dining is great. You must set up your specialty restaurant reservations as soon as you get on board for the first 3 days then at 7:00am every morning after that or you wouldn't always get the restaurant you like. This could be a problem if you sleep late. We liked this New Years cruise so much we already decided to do it again next year.

Pros: The fact that the cruise left from New York City and we didn't have to fly somewhere

Cons: The buffet dinnig room seating area was not spacious and very cramped

Recommends Norwegian Gem? Yes!

Ship Quality
Only thing we didn't like was the buffet dining room seating area on deck 12. All the table and chairs were too close and you felt too cramped. The room was always very crowded and you always had a hard time finding a table.
Food and Dining
All the specialty restaurants meals were excellent along with great service. They match the finest restaurants in New York City.
Cabin / Stateroom
The stateroom was roomy enough
Service and Staff
Everyone was very friendly and helpful
Entertainment
The entertainment was as good as any show on Broadway. All the performers were excellent.
Port Canaveral, Florida
We went to Nasa and it was a great experience
Don't Miss: The Nasa trip
Freeport, Grand Bahama Island
This port is what for. There is nothing there at all. You drive 20 min to a shopping mall that you could do without. Its old and has nothing to offer. They should remove this port and go to Key West.
Don't Miss: Don't miss? This is a MISS port for sure.
Great Stirrup Cay (Cruiseline Private Island), Bahamas
It was ok but nothing exceptional
Don't Miss: Being at the beach and the beautiful clear water
Nassau, Bahamas
We felt that Nassau is not very clean
Don't Miss: The shopping is good but the ship store pricing is the same
