Review summary

This cruise was not worth the money that we spent. We have been on Carnival and Celebrity and had much better experiences for a lot less money.

Embarkation

5 out of 5
Very quick and painless! Probably the easiest embarkation I've had.

Ship experiences

Food and Dining

2 out of 5
The buffet was horrible. Same things every day for breakfast. The themed dinners were a nice touch. Most of the time, food was lukewarm or cold. As far as the dining rooms, only ate at Taste for breakfast one day, it was okay. Not a lot of options. Went to the other dining room for dinner only once and the food was pretty good. But again, not a lot out options.

Onboard Activities

3 out of 5
A lot of the activities cost extra. To use the bowling alley or the rock climbing wall, for example. Other than that, the pools were small for the volume of people on the boat. Everything we wanted to do was too late at night or during the time we were in pretty port. Also, it costs extra to go to the ice bar.

Entertainment

3 out of 5
I only saw 2 comedy shows. Most of the shows were too late at night or overly packed. We tried to see the Beatles cover band, we got there an hour early and it was already packed full. The comedians were very entertaining though, we enjoyed them.

Children's Programs

Did not have any kids with me

Service and Staff

3 out of 5
There were only a few staff members that really stood out to us. Most did not seem to enjoy their jobs and a few were actually quite rude, which is the first time I've ever had a cruise ship staff member be rude to me. The fact that you are forced to pay gratuities, I expected a lot more.

Ship Quality

3 out of 5
The only outdoor area was on the lido deck/Spice H2O. It was too small for the volume of people. Those are usually the most popular areas. The majority of the bars were on deck 7. One bar on deck 5. Overall, everything was clean, but the common areas were not big enough to accommodate everyone.

Cabin / Stateroom

2 out of 5
The room setup is awful. The bathroom situation offers absolutely zero privacy when it comes to bathroom noises. It echoes. The curved walls give you little space to walk, especially when 2 people are trying to get ready at once. The balcony was a good size, but the table was so small, you could barely fit two cups of coffee on there at once.

Ship tip

Don't do it.

Ports of call

San Juan, Puerto Rico

We stayed the night here before boarding the ship. It was a nice place to stay, everyone is very friendly and helpful.

Oranjestad, Aruba

We went to a nice beach here, did a little shopping. It was perfect for what we wanted.

Willemstad, Curacao

4 out of 5
We took a tour, went to a Curacao distillery which was very cute. Saw a lot of beautiful murals painted on the houses and buildings. The shopping was very nice, but a little pricier than other ports. Very cute shopping areas though, very clean and pretty.

Kralendijk, Bonaire

This was our favorite port and we only got to spend about 4 hours there. People were very friendly. They have a very cute outdoor market that looked like a craft show. One lady was selling beautiful pieces of jewelry and it was one of my favorite souvenirs. We had a drink at a cute bar with a nice patio area, was very enjoyable.

Castries, St. Lucia

We did a horseback riding excursion here, that we booked through the ship and we did NOT like it. The horses were not tame at all. They did not listen. My horse had to be lead by someone and ended up biting the guy that was leading him on the hand, down to the bone. Needless to say, he had to leave. The horses had to walk on uneven dirt with big rocks, lots of uphill and downhill. I felt bad for them. Walking along the beach, there was garbage everywhere. However, we did stop at a nice little bar/restaurant on the beach and met some nice people that worked there. We did like that part! On the way back to the ranch, two people got thrown off their horses, the one woman got a concussion and ended up passing out on the shuttle back to the ship. It was so scary.

Bridgetown, Barbados

We were supposed to go on a pirate ship excursion here and we were the most excited for it! We got to the meeting spot and they made us wait 40 minutes before telling us that the excursion was canceled. They offered a catamaran excursion instead, but we decided to pass.

St. John's, Antigua

3 out of 5
Just went shopping at this port since we had already been here before and there was not a lot to see the last time. It is annoying how many people stand around trying to get you to look at what they have, to braid your hair or a taxi ride. It was every 10 seconds.

Basseterre, St. Kitts

4 out of 5
We took a tour here that we found off the ship. They took us to a beautiful garden, but we did not have nearly enough time to look around. We saw the black lava rocks which was beautiful. And also, the spot where the one side is the Atlantic Ocean and the other is the Caribbean ocean. It was one of the better tours we went on. We also had the option to pay to go into a park, but not enough interest, so they did not go there.

Tortola, British Virgin Islands

4 out of 5
Another beach day. The taxis were horrible. Making you wait a half hour to cram more people into a cab that was already full. The beach was beautiful though!

Charlotte Amalie, St. Thomas

3 out of 5
We've been here before and didn't like it. Amgen's Bay is NOT a beautiful beach, like they claim. We did go shopping a little bit, but that was it.

Disembarkation

1 out of 5
Took forever to disembark. Too many people being let off the boat at one time. We couldn't even get off the elevator because people were crowding it.

Could you imagine the prices they would charge if everyone gave it 5 stars? Thanks for helping keep the cost down for us free style cruisers.

Guess fre style cruising is not for you. With NCL you need to have a plan or you miss things like show. A little research into NCL might have helped.

Glad you had a great time! Just kidding. I did read your review. Sorry it wasn't what you were hoping for. The other cruise lines you mentioned have auto-gratuities also so I don't think that is why the service wasn't that great.
