Review summary

Food was good, ship was nice however there are quite a few cons. First, the rooms are tight. We had a balcony room and it was tough to move around. Hated that there wasn't an actual bathroom. The toilet was in its own vestibule where all noises (sorry!) we're heard loud and clear by your mate. Shower was separate (in another vestibule) and the sink was at the foot of the bed. Awkward! Bed was short. My husband is 6'2" and his feet were hanging off every night. The crew wasn't as friendly as you would expect. Lots of extra charges on the ship. We have only cruised with Norwegian and therefore we didn't initially realize this however we met lots of experienced cruisers who said it was their worst experience cruising because of all the extras. Cover charges for specialty restaurants, room service fees, charges for juices, etc. God forbid you could get a chair by the pool (which was tiny!). It's the first time I went on vacation to the Caribbean and didn't get much of a tan because I couldn't find one lounge chair to lay on. The final disembarkment was disorganized ad hectic.

No disrespect, but your comment about people who like this ship "have never been on a cruise before or have never done anything in their lives" seems to be contradicted by the positive reviews by people who say they've been on 30 or more cruises and listed Epic in their top 5. Hmmmmm

Cruised on Epic January 5, 2013. I agree with all the negative reviews. These people are telling the truth. Food is below average, not free-style, but rather FEE-STYLE. They charge for everything that is not basic. Drink package is overpriced, all you get is soda fountain drinks (what 5cents a serving?). Everything on the ship is highway robbery! I can't understand why people are not commenting on the safety drill before we leave port! I personally think this the most dangerous ship afloat. If the same thing happened on this ship that happended to the "concordia" there would be hundreds of fatalities. First, they assign you an Assembly Station Number, ours was F3 on the Casino level, Friends we cruised with were on the level below. You gather in a group in front of this number and a staff member was there telling you in case of evacuation return here. This location is within the ship as there is no prominade deck on epic. FINE, but where is the lifeboat? Was there a door you went through to get on the lifeboat? If crew was not around to help in an emergency (like they took off ahead of us!) HOW DO YOU GET ON THE LIFE BOAT? VERY VERY POOR INSTRUCTIONS. Unless you have a balcony cabin, the only way you see outslde is to go up to pool deck. Even then you have a difficult time to see over the tall glass walls which a spattered with salt spots. The whole time I was on the ship I felt like I was in a container on a container ship. Again I repeat this ship is safe as long as nothing happens that passengers have to get off in a hurry. The FAA or who ever looks after ship safety should look into this drill. As for the passengers on the ship, the ones who just LOVE the ship are obviously new to cruising, or I hate to say it just have never done anything in their lives before. Anyone I talked too, who had been on many cruises agreed with my criticism. We cruise on Holland America, and Royal Caribbean. Both excellent cruise lines. It was the first time on NORWEGIAN and THE VERY LAST TIME!!! Can you imagine all the charges they have in store for the passengers who will cruise on the new Breakaway and Getaway. Great Names: They want you to "break away" from your wallets! OH, and "get away - your charging how much extra????" MDL-ottawa ontario
