invalid-33450 Sail Date: January 12, 2013 Ship: Norwegian Epic Cabin Type: Inside Cabin Number:10298 Traveled As: Couple Reviewed: 5 years ago
My review title says it all. We were three couples and we made our own fun. But we would never take the Epic again. We probably won't sail with NCL again since last year's experience on the Pearl left much to be desired. I can say that there was a good abundance of shaded lounge chairs in the pool area.
Food and Dining

Breakfast and lunch buffets were okay. Dinners were convention food quality with unexciting choices. A burrito is not cruise dinner food to me. The trout was inedible. One main dining room had live music that was so loud you couldn't speak without shouting. The other had a ceiling that was open to the casino on the floor above and then continued to be open to the shopping mall on the floor above that. People peered down on you while you were dining and you had the smoke smell and noise of the casino as well. The Cirque performance and dinner (for which there is a charge) had dinner served during the performance. It is impossible to cut steak and watch a balancing act at the same time.

This was the first cruise we have taken where there was not entertainment every evening. The ship only paid for three evenings of it. The Cirque performance had a charge and the crew show used people from the staff. We walked out of the Blue Man Group and barely were able to sit through Second City.

Room lights are activated by your placing your room key card into a device on the wall near the door. On 26 previous cruises we had not encountered that before. We fumbled around in the dark until a passing passenger explained it to us. We never saw the room steward that first day and there were no instructions in the room about it.

You are forced to walk through the casino if you are on its floor. We even had to enter through a door in the midst of slot machines at embarkation.
Cabin / Stateroom
The staterooms are bathrooms with beds in them. No joke. Check the floor plans. Lighting for makeup is about what is in your refrigerator. You need to get down on the floor to access the electrical outlet. The hair drier cord doesn't allow it to reach to where the mirror is.
