Review summary

We sailed the 4th week in July. The captain did a great job of avoiding storms and the seas were calm and the weather sunny. The ship is old and is being replaced the next season. While everything was clean, the ship did show some wear. The food was acceptable but not what one would expect from a first class cruise. For the most part service was also acceptable, but some staff could have been better trained, especially the restaurant management. This time of the year many families bring children. Unfortunately on this cruise, most parents did not do a very good job of controling their children's poor behavior. The thing that bothered us the most was NCL's total lack of adherance to their own rules. We were three couples and all felt the same. In the morning, we walked to the hot tubs, which were for passengers 18 years old and older. Both hot tubs were full of children 10-15 years old. I never had an opportunity to use a hot tub. NCL literature clearly stated that shorts were not allowed in the restaurants for dinner. Almost half the people totally ignored that rule. The worst thing I witnessed was a man in the buffet line with no shirt on. I felt in all these examples, the crew should have intervenend. Part of the cruise ambiance is the formality and pomp of the dining experience. Freestyle cruising works well when you want the freedom to eat when and where you wish. The downside was waiting for a table. It was totally unpredictable trying to gauge when the restaurants would be busy. Most nights we walked right in. On two nights we waited over 45 minutes. I probably will try this cruise again with a new ship and during May and early June when children are in school. The best part.....if you live near Boston, no flying to get to Black Falcon Pier.

Ship experiences

Food and Dining

3 out of 5
Food just average. Maybe I expected more. "Lobster Extravaganza" consisted of a 1/2 rock lobster tail.

Entertainment

1 out of 5
Except for one musical couple in the Observation Lounge, the entertainment was beyond bad.

Service and Staff

1 out of 5
NCL needs to better train there staff on "Total Quality Service".

Ship Quality

3 out of 5
Following an accident, the ship was expanded. Not all areas of the ship were easily accessed.

Cabin / Stateroom

3 out of 5
Furnishings were clean but clearly old and worn.

Ports of call

St. George's, Bermuda

3 out of 5
St Georges was inviting and we enjoyed shopping and talking to people. One beach is an easy walk (.9 mile) and had bathrooms, changing rooms and food and drink. We had a wonderful day at this beach.
Don't Miss: Go to any bar and talk to the bartenders. Ask for a rum swizzle.
