Great Cruise

Sail Date: April 01, 2007

Traveled As: Couple

Room Type: Oceanview

We enjoyed a great 19-day repositioning cruise out of Houston. All ship staff, particularly restaurant and room staff, were exemplary - attentive and attractive. We have taken several other cruises with different companies such as Celebrity and Princess. This cruise outranked Celebrity by a mile.

Menus were varied for all meals and food was great. We are happy that we ignored many of the reviews. Coffee was always hot and eggs benedict were on the menu every day contrary to what we had read in other reviews. Of course, if there was nothing on the menu that appealed to us, the staff was always willing to try and meet our needs. Also, there were two specialty restaurants available - the Italian one was terrific.

This ship will be retired from NCL service within the next two years. Too bad because it is a nice size carrying about 1500 passengers. We prefer smaller ships to the giants that are saling now.

Shore excrusions were competitive with other lines - they are all too high so buyer beware. However, they lived up to what they promised. Before sailing, it is always a good idea to do some homework about ports-of-call. Often you can do better on your own - we did.

Pros: Staff and Food

Recommends Norwegian Dream (RETIRED)? Yes!

Entertainment
On this cruise, there were an abundance of comedians and/or sole performers unlike other cruises which tend to feature mini broadway shows. The Dream orchestra was sensational. However, the show dance group was good but not great. Wish there had been a little more variety.
Ship Quality
Ship was exeedingly clean. Smoking is allowed on board. We are non-smokers so this concerned us. However,we could detect no smoking odor in our stateroom. In other areas, such as casino, where smoking was allowed, there seemed to be great effort to keep odor to a minimum.
Food and Dining
Freetsyle dining makes everything flexible and convenient. Also, no formal nights unless you care to dress formally.
Cabin / Stateroom
Exceedingly clean, well-serviced and amintained. Stateroom was a little smaller than other lines on which we have sailed. However, we do not spend much time in our room so it was no hardship.
Service and Staff
Outstanding staff.
