Our Freestyle Experience by PaulP1

This was my first time on Norwegian. We were impressed with the the ship. It was very easy to get around. We liked the freestyle dining. Not enough deck chairs. Nice shows in the evening. Comfortable staterooms. Excellent service in the dining room. Pictures were pricey. They printed up one, then made a calendar of the same picture and made you take both for double the price, didn't like that.. Didn't need the calendar! Needed more activities on sea days..kind of quiet, not much going on.. Overall a good cruise but I prefer the other lines and would not sail Norwegian again.

Wonderful 2nd Honeymoon by TriciaR2

Sail Date: / Traveled As: Couple

The ship was all I could have imagined. After a disastrous honeymoon cruise 25 years ago, it was refreshing to see how far along the cruise industry has come. I was especially pleased with the size of the Dawn. It was quite spacious, but not overwhelmingly huge as some cruise ships are. The display of art was quite enjoyable as well. The cleanliness of the ship was most refreshing. I have never stayed in accomodations with such cleanliness. As for the restaurants, they were wonderful. Their reservations always ran on time, there was never any wait time. The CHOCOHOLICS night was most impressive with the skills of the culinary staff displayed for all to see and eat, and enjoy. Yummy!!!!! I would most defiitely recommend the Dawn!

Cruising the Norwegian Dawn by PaulP1

Sail Date: / Traveled As: Family (young children)

This was our first time onboard the Norwegian cruise line. We didn't know how it would compare with the other lineswe had sailed on. We were pleasantly surprised. Although we did have to wait nearly two hours to board the ship,we managed to enjoy every aspect of the sailing experience. There was always upbeat music playing by the pool. We didn't get to try all of the restaurants onboard. We did try the Venetian which was our favorite, the garden cafe, Sala and Aqua. The food was great. Entertainment fun. All in all, a good value.

We had an awesome cruise! by KimberlyR

Our recent cruise onboard the Norwegian Dawn to the western Caribbean was a dream come true. We had sailed on the Norwegian Majesty several years ago to Bermuda and had a wonderful time; but this past cruise far exceeded our wildest dreams. The staff was wonderful; always a smile on their faces and before you thought you needed something they were there offering it to you. Our room was on the 10th deck with a balcony near the front of the ship; it was very spacious, always kept clean, and the balcony provided us with quiet time whether it be gazing out over the ocean or sitting back reading a good book. There was never a dull moment on ship; the cinema had new release movies playing throughout the day and night; the ships dancers and singers were top notch and the comedians, magicians and singers there were flown in at various ports to entertain were fabulous. The food was great; if anyone went hungry on the ship their jaws must have been wired shut. (ha!). The buffet was always inviting, or if one chose there were several other restaurants to choose from. This vacation was a much needed rest for both myself and my husband; we looked at each other at the end and wondered why we hadnt done this much sooner. We are already planning our next trip; the southern Caribbean out of New York. Keep up the GREAT work!

In March of 2006, my husband and myself and our best friends went on a cruise from New York to the Carribean, It was our fourth cruise with NCL but it was our first with an outside cabin with a balcony. Previously we had been on 7-8 day cruises but this was an 11 day cruise. We all felt very rested with the extra time and being able to enjoy the ports and morning coffee on the balcony was Awesome!!! NCL's freestyle cruising has us hooked. I'm not sure spending the extra time sailing from New York was worth it but we spent an extra night in New York and did enjoy that. Our plan is to start saving for both of our 40th Anniversaries in 2011 and take a Mediteranean cruise to celebrate.

A very relaxing cruise by SonnyA

We sailed on the Dawn for 11 nights in March of 2006 and really enjoyed our trip. We went on Norwegian for the first time to try the freestyle dining. This we really liked. You don't have to worry about being back on the ship at a certain time to get ready for an assigined dinner seating like other cruiselines. You can eat anytime starting at 5:30 and you don't have to get dressed up in a suit or gown. Casual dress is allowed in all dining rooms. (no shorts or jeans) You can still dress formal if you like. There are 3 main dining rooms to choose from and 4 specialty restaurants plus the buffet to eat at. The specialty restaurants have an additional fee of between $15 and $25 and you need to make reservations at these. We didn't eat at any of these. We had an inside cabin which seemed smaller than other cruiselines and there was only 3 draws for clothes. There are places we found to put all our clothes, but it would have been nicer to have had more draws. The shower is bigger than other ships and it had glass doors which made it nicer. The layout of the ship took some getting used to. Our room was on the 8th floor and if you were at the front of the ship and wanted to get to the back, you had to zig zag you way there,.it wasn't a straight hallway. We don't know how it was on the other floors. The staff and crew did an excellent job answering any questions you may have. Also the service in the dining rooms , bars and lounges was excellent. The nightly entertainment was very good. They had the usual comedians, magicians, singers and dancers. We would recommend this cruise to anyone.

Probably the best cruise ever!! by EvelynG4

Sail Date: / Traveled As: Family (older children)

I loved the ship. The layout was great. The indoor pool and spa was a great place to hang out on the way home when we were getting into colder weather.. The cook-outs on deck offered even more food options and the ice cream by the pool was simply wonderful. Everyone was friendly and there were so many things to do between ports. The stops were as planned except for the private island. But we visited the Dominican Republic instead, which was a nice stop.

My first, but not my last! by UrsulaK

Sail Date: / Traveled As: Couple

The Norwegian Dawn is a ship well cared for. Everything on the ship looked like it was the first time it had set sail. Perfect. The staff was not only helpful, but by day 2 new our names, and what we liked to drink. You couldn't ask for better service than we were given on our 10-day cruise. The food was a little disappointing. It wasn't bad, just not everything I had always heard it would be. Especially breakfast. Bingo was expensive, but fun, and the entertainment onboard was absolutely top-notch. The ports that we visited were all stunning. I would give this cruise a full 6 smiles on everything except the food. I'd do it again, and again and again. Awesome. NCL has my vote, everyday!

A BEAUTIFUL SHIP by KellyS15

Sail Date: / Traveled As: Family (older children)

WE WENT ON FLORIDA/BAHAMAS CRUISE IN OCTOBER 2005 WITH OUR TEENAGE DAUGHTERS(17 & 16). WE HAD A GREAT TIME. I DON'T THINK WE WILL EVER TAKE ANOTHER CRUISE WITHOUT FREESTYLE DINING. WE ARE NOT THE TYPE OF PEOPLE TO STICK TO SCHEDULES ON VACATION! WE HARDLY EVER SAW OUR KIDS( EVEN THOUGH THERE WERE NOT TOO MANY OTHER KIDS ON THIS CRUISE SINCE IT WAS DURING THE SCHOOL YEAR, THEY MANAGED TO MEET A FEW AND HUNG OUT WITH THEM ALL THE TIME). WE RENTED A CAR AND WENT TO UNIVERSAL STUDIOS IN PORT CANAVERAL (MUCH CHEAPER TO DO IT THIS WAY THAN THROUGH ONBOARD EXCURSIONS). WE RENTED JETSKIS IN ATLANTIS, AND HAD DOLPHINS SWIM RIGHT UP NEXT TO US!! VERY COOL, EVEN FOR THE TEENAGERS! I WOULD RECOMMEND THIS CRUISE TO ANYONE, AND AM ALREADY BOOKING OUR NEXT ONE. (WE DID NOT GET TO GO TO THE PRIVATE ISLAND DUE TO STORMY WEATHER AND HAD SOME ISSUES SINCE WE HAD BOOKED AN EXCURSION, AND ALSO HAD ONE OTHER PROBLEM WITH SERVICE IN THE INTERNET CAFE, BUT WE MADE AN ADJUSTMENT ON THE PREPAID GRATUITY WITHOUT ANY HASSLES! (YOU CAN ASK FOR AN ADJUSTMENT ON THE LAST NIGHT OF THE CRUISE).

Lots to do on the... by RECruisers

Lots to do on the lovely ship! The staff go out of their way to make you comfortable, even putting a napkin in your lap when you dine. My daughter loved the little towel animals they leave on your bed.

Sail Date: /

We cruised on this ship in March of 2003 out of Miami. It was my first cruise and a fantastic time. Such a beautiful ship with lots to do! Service was excellent. Destinations were some of the most beautiful ones I've ever been too. Norwegian was one of my favorites. I wish they'd come to Galveston.

Embarkation was a little slow,... by DanielJ15265391

Embarkation was a little slow, however this was in no way the fault of NCL. I arrived a little early and I think had I been one hour later the long lines would have been gone. This ship is totally awesome! I have cruised three times this year and I have to wonder if I will ever be happy on another ship. The Dawn is state of the art in every way. At no time did I feel like I was on a ship. It was like being in a 5 STAR hotel. The spa is breathtaking and the staff there is the best I have ever encountered on sea or land. The food was perfect and the selection unbelievable. I did not make it to all the restaurants on the ship because 7 days was just not enough. Finally, the entertainment of the Ryan group was spectacular. Each show just got better and better. Also, The entertainers in the bar area were great as well.I could write a lot more about this experience but words cannot do this ship and its staff justice.

We took the cruise during... by ChantalS

We took the cruise during New Year's, and it was amazing. The food was great, although service was slow, but this isn't fast food, so that was fine. The shows were the best out of any other hotel/cruise shows that we've seen. The rooms were nice and cozy. Service was amazing, we put the sign on the door to clean the room/make the beds in the morning, then we would go eat breakfast, and when we got back to our room, it was already clean. Overall, we loved this cruise, and we're definitely considering taking another one.

I would first like to... by 189

I would first like to thank the crew of Nowegian Dawn for a perfect vacation for all in my family. From my 1 year old, thru my father in law who is 90% confined to a wheel chair. The other reviews which I have read seem to be fair. But some things need to be clarified.# 1 The Dawn leaves from NYC, population 10 million - expect delays in one of the busiest port in the country. There staff handles everything to the best of there ability. # 2 The kids camp is something my wife and I had our doubts about, The staff was professional in everyway. When my 2 year old son arrived home he was upset about not being able to see his new found friends. I did though here a couple complaints on the frequency of pick ups. I would suggest either bringing a sitter or using the on board service. I also enjoyed the pizza making parties in the Kids Cafe. # 3 The no tipping policy work out great, though I did compensate additionally the staff tending to my family. # 4 Drinking althought some people felt the staff was if they were a little aggressive, I on the other hand enjoy the fact that what ever I want is within Eyesight.# 5 The food was wonderful, service great, and freestyle dining with children is definitely the way to go.Last and but not least - The Ship. The Dawn has everthing you would ever want. Rooms were spacious, balcony was a big plus.Overall - I will be taking the Dawn Again.I loved this trip.

M/S Norwegian Dawn Cruise Review... by MichaelP8

M/S Norwegian Dawn Cruise Review for the week of 7/6/03 from New York by Michael P. Foley: There has been a new Dawn on the cruise industry. The M/S Norwegian Dawn is an absolutely amazing ship that I describe as indescribable, but I will try my best to let you know what a fabulous time I had and what a fabulous vessel this is. I went with my father and mother, 57 and 46 respectively, my sisters, 20 and 22, a long time friend of the family, age 50 and a boyfriend of my sister, age 26. All of us had a simply marvelous time. I am only a fourteen years old, but please do not let that discourage you from reading this review as I am fairly knowledgeable about this amazing industry of cruising. "To the ship:" The Dawn is much more elegant than I expected. The Grand Atrium was not obtrusive compared to most of the new ships. It was three decks high (they were the main reception and Java Cafe, the optional Salsa restaurant and the Internet Cafe) and was never very crowded. The only time I had to wait on line there was for the midnight buffet which was at 2:00 pm when we left NCL's private island. The most advertised feature of an NCL cruise is being able to Freestyle Cruise. The Norwegian Dawn, Star, Sky and Sun were all built with this in mind. For those who do not know what Freestyle cruising is, it is being able to dine when you want, with whom you want, where pretty much, wear what you want. In other words this is even more like a resort/hotel at sea. This worked very well for us, although we chose to make reservations every once in a while. The TEN restaurants were beautiful and the food absolutely could not have been better. The main "Oasis Pool" was more than adequate but was crowded on the days at sea, which is how most ships are. The sister ship, Norwegian Star, has two water slides by her pool, but they were not installed on the Dawn, most likely because of space, and it was definitely a good move. I cannot say enough about the entertainment, from the shows in the Stardust Theater which were like eye candy to the games that the hilarious and talented cruise staff put on. Everything was amusing and entertaining. "I ate the entire time..."I am very surprised that when I look up the word gluttony, a picture of the Venetian restaurant onboard the Dawn is not there! Our party of seven used the Freestyle Dining concept and went to all the included restaurants besides Impressions, because of a line. [Tip- Each day make reservations at whatever restaurant at which you wish to eat to be on the safe side]. Our favorite was the Venetian. It is such a classy and beautiful restaurant. We asked and of course received the same table and great waiter, Minon, almost each time we went, however, there is no guarantee for this preference. The food all over the ship was simply irresistible and scrumptious! Even the B.B.Q by the pool had fantastic paella and more. I have heard fabulous things about the optional restaurants especially Le Bistro, a French cuisine restaurant. It is home to original masterpieces by Van Gogh, Renoir, Monet, Andy Worhal and Matisse! For those who are booked on the Dawn this should be helpful:Included restaurants: Venetian, Aqua, Impressions, Trattoria, Garden Cafe (buffet), and the Blue Lagoon.Optional; Extra Fee restaurants (reservations are needed): Le Bistro $12.50 cover charge, Cagney's Steak house $17.50, Bamboo $10 cover charge, Teppanyaki a la carte pricing (Asian food being cooked hibachi style right in front of you). Embarkation went very smoothly, unlike what I have read from other cruise ships that left from Miami. [Tip/reminder- fill out those Bahamas cards before you go to leave from the port of New York]. Overall, this cruise was indescribable. The ports and rooms were good. Garden Villa Suites are amazing.
