The Norweigan Dawn is falling apart!

Sail Date: August 01, 2010

Reviewed: 6 years ago

Traveled As: Couple

Room Type: Oceanview

There were four cabinets in our room that were broken out of maybe seven or eight. We called to have them repaired and even after that, one of them was "unrepairable". The sink had the stopper torn out and my husband lost a contact lens down it (repaired two days after reporting it). One of the shower knobs kept falling off as well. Outside the room, several elevator buttons were broken or missing on each elevator. There were at least three wooden banisters around the ship that were missing and replaced by yellow caution tape. Two of the poolside showers were broken, and the signs warning that they were not working were cracked and barely hanging on. The grate in one of the jacuzzi's was also broken as well. The tiles all over the pool were cracked, faded or missing as well. The buffet always had some drink dispenser broken or dispensing the incorrect drink. The rest of the ship had a very worn out look, such as faded carpet, stained seat cushions, broken night lights around the pool and things like that.

Pros: Bermuda was beautiful, clean, safe and we had an amaing time on the island itself.

Cons: The ship had a hundred things wrong with it- see below

Recommends Norwegian Dawn? No.

Ship Quality
See the many, many issues we had with the ship in the post above.
Cabin / Stateroom
The furniture and amenities in the room were falling apart as well. The cabinets, shower knob and sink drain were all broken. When we first boarded the ship the bathroom was dirty with the previous occupants leavings. Our sheets had very faded, but nonetheless there stains. The cable in the stateroom was also unwatchable because the picture jumped up and down constantly. The crew fixed some of the cabinets and the sink eventually, but we were told that nothing could be done about the television.
Service and Staff
While some of the staff had the happy smile and helpful attitude that we have come to appreciate and expect from all of our previous Norwegian cruises (two previous), many of the ship's crew were barely polite and grudgingly so. The customer relations people were mostly unhelpful. I had to report the broken conditions of our room two times before getting a handyman in the room. We used a lot of room service and the food was good, but the servers barely said hello as you opened the door for the food.
Food and Dining
The food was varied and well made and presented. The restaurants also looked old and not very maintained but the food was always good.
The on-board entertainment was what you would expect on a cruise. We saw a good Beatles tribute band, karaoke was fun and the various dance parties were fairly fun too. We had no complaints about the activities.
King's Wharf, Bermuda
King's Wharf was beautiful but somewhat off the beaten path. I highly recommend renting a Vespa and cruising around the island with it. They are inexpensive, easy to drive and a lot of fun.
Don't Miss: Bermuda Glass Factory, Commisioners House, Craft Market
