All around good cruise by gemstar554

Sail date: / Traveled as: Couple
Ship: Norwegian Breakaway / Destination: Caribbean - Eastern

Overall, I really enjoyed this cruise. It was laid back and fun. They did run out of my husband's beer on the 2nd day and the blackjack tables had a high minimum in our opinion, but we had a blast and really enjoyed ourselves.

Awesome Bahamas cruise on Breakaway by OldGreyWolf

Sail date: / Traveled as: Couple
Ship: Norwegian Breakaway / Destination: Caribbean - Bahamas

Overall the cruise was great. The food was fantastic, with a few exceptions and the service and crew were even better. Every crew member made us feel as though we were special and receiving extra care every time we dealt with them. Friendly yet unobtrusive we found the crew to be excellent. My wife had purchased passes to the thermal spa for us prior to cruising and those were most enjoyable. We actually lounged in the spa nice and warm for our sailaway watching the snow accumulate on the cars and parts of the city disappear in the snowy whiteness. As a part of our booking we got the UDP (specialty dining package) and UBP (unlimited beverage package) included in our booking and it was extremely convinient and enjoyable to have. Although very nice to have the UBP would not pay for itself if we had to purchase it but it was great top have and was used liberally throughout the cruise, especially on the island. The UDP was great. We chose Cagney's on embarcation night and we also used it for the Cirque Dreams show and dinner at La Cucina. In my opinion La Cucina was hands down the best dining venue on the ship and would strongly recommend that everyone try it at least once. The menu and the food preperation was fantastic. Even though other venues may have offered the same menu item the quality and preperation was not as good as we experienced at La Cucina. Overall this cruise was outstanding.

Booked cruise directly through Norwegian and agent took care of all restaurant reservations, reservations for shows and excursions. Made the experience of booking cruise extremely easy and organized. A Complete and Totally Great Week by vyacyniak22

Sail date: / Traveled as: Family (older children)
Ship: Norwegian Breakaway / Destination: Bermuda

I was very impressed with how well organized this cruise was, from start to finish. Handling such large populations of people in and off the ship was such an achievement! I loved the choices of foods offered, and having everything at your fingertips! There was plenty to do, no matter what your age.. or if you prefer, not to do. The attention made to details were exsemplary and well thought out. All the food was delicious! Our cabin was clean and comfortable, loved the beds... and were much more spacious than I thought.  My only complaint would be that the size of the adult pool is much too small for such a big ship. It was difficult finding a lounge chair, and, we couldn't get into the pool because of crowding. The music was great, loved Essence and also Emily and Arvin.. all the entertainment was great.

We went on the Breakaway to Bermuda last August and the entertainment director was fabulous. He made everyone laugh and was upbeat.. u just didn't want the evening to end with him. This time, the lady in charge of entertainment just didnt seem to connect. She spoke to guests, in my opinion, like they were preschoolers... with alot of wows, and, good job! On the whole we definitely would recommend cruising with Breakaway to anyone who hasn't tried it. Everyone is super friendly and make u feel like royalty. We loved our vacation.. and we will go again.

Cruise on the Norwegian Breakaway, February 29th thru March 7. by bsulfridge

Sail date: / Traveled as: Family (older children)
Ship: Norwegian Breakaway

This was a great cruise. The highlights was that the food was the best cruise food we have had. The staff was great. Nic our room steward was wonderfull. The ship was too big for our liking. It made all the public areas feel small like the pool deck. Also, they didn't enforce their no chair saving, but what cruise does, none I have been on. The seas the first two days were rocky and the weather was chilly, but we were on the open ocean. This resulted in missing Great Stirup Cay. I was disappointed to learn the we would tender to Cozumel, but a ship cancelled there and we were able to dock at a Carnival berth. I hate to hear the has been so much mass hysteria over caronavirus. Overall this was a great cruise, just wish it was more family appropriate.

It's Okay. by AntonioAndFida

Sail date: / Traveled as: Couple
Ship: Norwegian Breakaway / Destination: Caribbean - Bahamas

What can I say. ... We booked this cruise to get away from the cold plus, it was convenient for us to get to the NYC piers. ... Other than that, I had no expectations. I knew what I was getting into on a ship carrying 4300 passengers and VERY LIMITED open-air, deck space.

CABIN: We booked a mini suite #13798 - PERFECT location midships (Since there are only TWO banks of elevators. One forward and one aft.) Can you picture that on a ship this size? ... Our cabin steweard RANDY CRUZ was EXCELLENT! ... The cabin space itself was fine, and the bathroom was excellent. PLENTY of storage in the cabin and the bathroom. The balcony, ... a joke. Sooooo small.

FOOD: Main dining rooms - Excellent. We especially liked the MANHATTAN ROOM. Buffet: Deck 16 - Fresh, tasty, excellent variety. There is a smaller version on Deck 15 with, fresh air seating (very nice). Specialty restaurants: Ate in the Brazilian. Excellent food, service, ambiance. And a lot of fun. You can reuest a table overlooking the dance floor of The Manhattan Room. Very nice location. Ate in The French restaurant. There were 4 of us. We each ordered a different main dish, and all were excellent. Desserts were outstanding EXCEPT the chocolate fondue served with fruit. The chocolate was not of high quality. Tasted like heated up Hershey's syrup. I do not recommend that you eat outside the restaurant, at the nice bistro tables they have set up. The smell of cigarette smoke from the casino is overwhelming (Whether or, not you're a smoker. Wouldn't you rather be able to taste and smell what you're eating and not, cigarettes?).

ROOM SERVICE: Very limited breakfast menue. After the third day, it becomes, same-old, same-old. Very inconsistant in their arrival times. Very! The mini suites have a small one-cup coffee maker. Ask the Steward to leave extra coffee pouches and double-up when brewing a cup. The coffee packets are weak tasting. The coffee in the buffets are restaurant is good.

ENTERTAINMENT. Burn the floor -  A MUST SEE! ... OUTSTANDING! Second City - The family version NOT FUNNY. Did not see the "adult" version at 11:00 pm but, was told by 3 other couples that it was EXTREMELY vulgar. All 3 walked out. Rock of ages - DISGUSTINGLY VULGAR. Why NCL would have a venue like this is beyond my comprehension. We left as soon as two guys "came out of the closet" and the audience applauded.

CRUISE ITINERARY. Really, really bad. Like I said, we only took this cruise because of convenience and to get away from the cold. Cape Canaveral - Oh my goodness! The ONLY way to get off the docking area is by taxi (cannot cross the causeway on foot), and ONE taxi company controls everything. Get prepared to wait and wait and wait on very long lines to get a taxi. And the taxi fare prices ... as high as New York City's.

You get the gist. ... Overall the cruise was okay, and just okay. Would I cruise NCL again? Probably not. ALL the entry level and mid level cruise lines do everything they possibly can to separate-you-from-your-money but, but, but, NCL has taken it to a whole new level. Eliminating every inch of public free air space and creating pay-to-enter venues. It is sincerely over the top. To the point of insultingly bad taste.

Why does my review matter, and you should take heed? Because I have taken over 40 cruises, have owned 3 full service travel agencies, and had done hundreds of ship inspections. Bottom line - If you do not have ANY expectations of experiencing a "fabulous" cruise, and, and, and you can get yourself a fabulous blowout price then, okay, take this cruise. If not, DON'T!

Breakaway to Bermuda w/Haven by HBCruiser

Sail date: / Traveled as: Family (older children)
Ship: Norwegian Breakaway / Destination: Bermuda

The Haven experience made this cruise! The staff, accommodations and food were ll excellent. Shows were all great, had preferential seating, easy embark- and debarkation, and beautiful ship. The boat was crowded but we never felt as though we could not get access to areas and shows that we wanted. I liked being able to book things in advance and plan. The only thing needing improvement are the seats in the theatre - very uncomfortable.

Loved the ship and the cruise ports by WileyE

Sail date: / Traveled as: Singles/Friends
Ship: Norwegian Breakaway / Destination: Caribbean - Western

I thought 11 nights on a cruise ship would be too much. I was wrong. I loved all the stops throughout the Caribbean. A nice mix of beaches, water activities, and cultural excursions. The food and entertainment on the ship was great. I really enjoyed the spa, either in the morning or evening after an excursion. Cant wait for my next cruise....this time to Alaska.

Great ship! by MimosaMatt

Sail date: / Traveled as: Large Group
Ship: Norwegian Breakaway

This cruise was good, but I will probably avoid this ship in the future. It was not bad by any means, and I had a great time, but something felt "off" with the ship and crew. I can't put my finger on what it was but it was there. Grand Cayman and Cozumel were wonderful ports, but give Jamaica a miss. I had a great time over all and can't wait to sail with NCL again!

Excellent Cruise!!! by Tricia1124

Sail date: / Traveled as: Family (older children)
Ship: Norwegian Breakaway

We had a wonderful cruise on the Breakaway. I was nervous about the ship since there were so many negative reviews. We experienced the opposite. The staff were all so friendly and always said Hi with a smile. They work hard but still seemed eager to please and were happy. The food was very good and came out hot and quickly. We never had a long wait for food or drinks. Our the steward Renaldo was great and a pleasure to meet. The concierge Martina was energetic and always willing to assist you. I think this was the best Haven experience we have had with NCL. The only complaint, as others always say, the casino is terrible with all the smoke. NCL really needs to separate the areas on the older ships like they have with the Joy, Bliss and Encore. It's such a terrible design.
