Review summary

We enjoy Norwegian, but will never do this ship or large passenger number ship again. Ever. We understand that cruising is not what it was 20 years ago, but this cruise was pretty disappointing logistically. Service and food was well below even today’s expectations.

Embarkation

5 out of 5
Very fast, we were at the end of the time frame.

Ship experiences

Food and Dining

1 out of 5
The specialty dining rooms were great. The main dining rooms were awful, for food, service, and getting into eat. You had to wait in line forever. Freestyle means you show up when you want, but you HAD to have reservations in order to be able to go in when you wanted. The bar servers were great, but slow due to huge number of people.

Onboard Activities

4 out of 5
We used the hot tubs daily, walked around and did some excursions. For everything you wait in line. And wait. 5000 people is too many, tho others told us they never experienced the “waits” on other same size ships.

Entertainment

2 out of 5
Ok, caveat: we never saw a show, for 3 reasons. 1. You have to have reservations. Really. 2. They cancelled every show we reserved for technical difficulties. 3. Both shows use laser light shows. I have glaucoma and can not deal with bright lights, much less focused moving lights. This made the shows unavailable to me.

Service and Staff

1 out of 5
Our room steward could not make a bed to save his life. Short sheeted. Crooked. Not tucked in anywhere. Made the bed up with a napkin, knife and fork inside the sheets. Great to slide in bed and get poked!! The main dining room waiters could not remember anything out of the ordinary, nor bring hot water to the table for tea. Alex at Moderno restaurant was a bright star in an otherwise bleak pallets of waiters.

Ship Quality

Cabin / Stateroom

Good size, great balcony with good open view.

Ship tip

Take another ship. Norwegian is normally a very good line, I just feel this ship needs new management.

Ports of call

Naples, Italy

5 out of 5
Wonderful port and food.

Livorno (Florence & Pisa), Italy

5 out of 5
Took our only excursion here. Florence is tough if you have any disabilities, it’s very uneven walking.

Cannes, France

4 out of 5
Tender port. Great food and views

Cadiz (Seville), Spain

5 out of 5
LOVED THIS PORT!! We want to return and spend a few weeks here. We did the hop on hop off bus to see the sights.

Lisbon, Portugal

5 out of 5
We’ve been before and always love Lisbon.

Royal Naval Dockyard, West End, Bermuda

5 out of 5
Nice place, good walking, nice local tram around the area. Hard to get to other cities except for longish ferry rides.

New York, New York

5 out of 5
Spent 3 days. Cold but amazing. It’s an experience!

Disembarkation

AWFUL. ABYSMAL. 3 hours of standing in line after being called 1 hour late. Folks around us were about to miss their flights, etc.

A number of people seem to be disappointed with the larger Norwegian ships.
