Review Summary

NCL does a great job and the newer ships have so much to do that I believe for the money this was an exceptional value. If you are flexible you can find some great cruise's at a very reasonable price.

Embarkation

5 out of 5
We got to the pier early, around 10 am, and were on board shortly after 11 am. The lines were quick, wait time seemed to go fast and a breeze once boarding started. I should note that the ship was only about 85% full.

Ship Experiences

Food and Dining

4 out of 5
While the food was great for this class of cruise ship we have been on some other midrange cruise lines that have more food options. We liked the Irish Pub which was quick and the food tasty. The food in the Pub was for the most part only offered there. Items like fish n'chips, corned beef sandwich and shepherds pie. Plus the Pub is open 24/7. The buffet was large, well organized and stations repeated throughout the venue. Some stations changed daily but most offerings stayed the same. The eggs to order station in the morning was a main stop for us. We took most of our dinners in Savor, one of the three main restaurants onboard. The menus are the same in all three restaurants but they each have a different atmosphere.

Maltings Beer and Whiskey Bar

2 out of 5

I would have liked to have tried this venue but the smoke from the designated outside smoking area filled the area and made it unpleasant for us to spend any time there. But there were many other Bars to visit that were very nice.

Onboard Activities

5 out of 5
The nice thing about the newer ships is the variety of activities to do onboard. It would be impossible for one to do everything. This ship had a great atrium area where a lot on indoor games, music and other activities took place. The outside ropes course, rock wall, pool, slides, etc. were great. The many options meant nothing seemed to be too busy.

Entertainment

5 out of 5
Two GREAT Broadway shows and a various number of other shows in the main theater meant their was something to see in the main theater most every night. The Headliners venue with the comedians and on alternating nights the Howling at the Moon (dueling piano) show were fun. They also had a Jazz Club, Night Club, and music at various locations around the ship. It was not hard to find something to like.

Children's Programs

We did not have children with us on this cruise. But the veniues I saw for the children programs look great.

Service and Staff

5 out of 5
How do they do it? How do they find people that are so pleasant and friendly to work on these ships. And not just a few but everyone we would meet or just in passing would give a greeting. This is what makes such a great vacation, the service and staff.

Ship Quality

5 out of 5
This was a newer ship so it was well laid out. And if you want to vacation is a clean place I don't think their is a cleaner location than a cruise ship. In late evenings I noticed someone cleaning all the hand railings in the stairways. And the ship has a lot of stairways. I wonder when was the last time the hotel you go to did this.

Cabin / Stateroom

5 out of 5
Very spacious for a ship, clean, clean and clean.

Ship Tip

On the Breakaway go to one of the two smaller complementary restaurants, Savor or Taste. They have the same menu as the large restaurant but service seems to be quicker and it's a little more of a intimate setting. The Mixx Bar is located outside both for a cocktail before dinner if you like.

Ports Of Call

New York, New York

4 out of 5
The ports were good. The weather was not the greatest so that had some affect. Because of the Hurricane's that hit the east Caribbean our itinerary changed to west Caribbean. Cruiseline.com should have noted this.

Disembarkation

5 out of 5
Exceptionally fast and easy. Not sure why as last time on this ship it took a while. I think their procedure has changed.
