Review summary

My overall first cruise experience on the NCL Breakaway was more than pleasurable. My wife and I shared our experience with two great friends who have cruised before and were able to offer some great tips. I was somewhat hesitant to cruise due to terrible motion sickness but can honestly say, with a little Bonine, my experience was uneventful! Do yourself a favor and book a cruise! The stress free atmosphere is well worth it!

Embarkation

5 out of 5
The embarkation of the NCL Breakaway to and from Bermuda was simple and painless. Loading and unloading 4,500 individuals is no small task but was done in a manner that provided a rather quick experience.

Ship experiences

Food and Dining

5 out of 5
Food and drink on the Breakaway was good with the purchase of the drink and dining package. Plenty to choose from and great service for the most part. I have to mention Elliot from the Whiskey Bar as he went out of his way to make our lounging extremely pleasurable!

Onboard Activities

5 out of 5
Plenty to do on the Breakaway - casinos, pools, jacuzzis, climbing wall, water slides, bowling, shuffleboard, etc...

Entertainment

5 out of 5
Entertainment on the Breakaway was excellent to say the least. Rock of Ages was outstanding, Second City Improv was comical and musical entertainment was great!

Children's Programs

Don't have children.

Service and Staff

5 out of 5
Waitstaff on the Breakaway with the exception of a couple were more than excellent. Our room steward, Sandro, did everything in his power to keep us happy and comfortable.

Ship Quality

5 out of 5
The Breakaway is a large (Very Large) ship so after 7 days, I still had trouble finding my way around. By no means is this a complaint, more of a compliment of the ability to explore for a week or so and still leave wanting to see more.

Cabin / Stateroom

5 out of 5
Larger than I imagined for first cruise. Plenty of room for the two of us with the option of storage under bed and in the walls.

Ports of call

New York, New York

5 out of 5
The Manhattan cruise port of call was clean and organized for efficiency.

Royal Naval Dockyard, West End, Bermuda

5 out of 5
The Royal Navy Dockyard was clean and close to some good bars and restaurants. Excursions were easy to book and very easily accessible just outside the ship. If you utilize a taxi - make sure it's official with "taxi" on the doors and on top of the roof. Others will cheat or at least try to cheat you out of money!

Disembarkation

4 out of 5
A little confusing disembarkation out of the Breakaway and out to the ending port of call BUT I realize this is done to avoid the bottlenecking of passengers.

So happy you had a good first cruise. It's good you were cruising with past cruiser's who were there to help you navigate. Hope you are thinking about your next cruise adventure.

Congrats on your first cruise and a great attitude to learn from someone with a little more experience. That, and some motion pills, equal a positive cruise.
