Breakaway: Our All TIme Favorite Ship!

Sail Date: September 01, 2013

Reviewed: 3 years ago

Traveled As: Couple

Room Type: Balcony

Everything was wonderful\, truly exceptional. We have cruised on all the major lines around 10 times in total and Breakaway was our favorite. All aspects of the ship -- the crew\, the stateroom\, the entertainment\, the food -- were everything we could dream. We enjoyed the full complement of activities on this ship. And wow\, there was much to do! Thankfully\, NCL provided Latitudes program to track and plan the day. The aerial ropes course was fun and challenging for our skill -- and nerve. We walked The Plank that extends 8 feet over the side of the ship. We also made generous use of the climbing wall\, water slides and trampoline like two grown-up kids. We enjoyed two NCL Latitudes members special invitation events held during the week. In all\, we had a blast and are already planning \"next time\". You should go ... NOW!

Pros: Entertainment\, activities\, quality and variety of food offerings.

Cons: Smoking should be banned indoors! Unable to avoid with casino's open central location.

Recommends Norwegian Breakaway? Yes!

Children's Programs
We didn't bring kids\, however we took note of the many activities available. It's every kid's dream!
The entertainment was non-stop top-notch! We were very impressed with the musical \"Rock of Ages\" and agreed that it was every bit as good or better than the show currently on Broadway (we have seen that show twice). We also thoroughly enjoyed the dance show \"Burn the Floor\" enough to see it twice! We caught 4-5 spontaneously clever performances by The Second City. We also enjoyed a number of performances at Fat Cats Jazz & Blues Club. The group Fire & Ice were outstanding; we especially enjoyed their Whitney Houston and Tina Turner tributes
Service and Staff
The staff on Breakaway in all venues and at all levels exceed expectations. All wonderful\, attentive and friendly. We like lots of pillows -- staff brought them right over. We made an error entering our safe combo -- someone was at our door in a minute to reset it.
Cabin / Stateroom
This is a new ship\, everything in nice contemporary style\, fresh and clean. Most staterooms have balconies. Very comfortable bedding.
Food and Dining
We were extremely satisfied with all dining options (and there are many). We are not over eaters\, but during cruise week things got more than a little out of control. We enjoyed the Garden Buffet\, the 3 complementary dining rooms as well as several specialty restaurants. We had dinner at Le Bistro\, La Cucina and Cagney's Steak House. We also enjoyed casual dining at O'Sheehan's Bar & Grill and the Uptown Bar & Grill. The several old-time Sabrett's Hot Dog carts around the ship were a nice surprise!
Ship Quality
The quality is outstanding throughout the ship. Our only complaint was with smoking in the casino (which is centrally located\, open to common areas and difficult or impossible to avoid). It's 2013\, and the world has pretty much universally banned smoking indoors\, particularly where kids are concerned. It's long been \"about time\" NCL.
