Beautiful ship! The observation lounge... by geoffpatterson

Sail date: /
Ship: Norwegian Bliss

Beautiful ship! The observation lounge will make it so difficult to ever do an older ship again! There were a few bartenders that were great. Jonathan at Sugarcane Mojito Bar was very entertaining. But Gene at the observation lounge literally made our whole cruise. She was AMAZING! The ship is awesome and looking forward to sailing the sister ship NCL Joy in May!

One of the best parts... by liviafry

Sail date: /
Ship: Norwegian Bliss

One of the best parts of the ship is that they have a non-smoking casino area! Good idea! Difficult to find a chair on the pool deck especially on Sea days. Musical entertainment was great especially enjoyed the Beatles show.

Great ship with some ups and downs. A little more on the down site for us by mikeyb2

Sail date: / Traveled as: Couple
Ship: Norwegian Bliss / Destination: Caribbean - Eastern

The greatness: 1. A lot of bars with a lot of drink options. Not a big drinking but had the unlimited pass so drank a bit more then usual and will prob not drink like that ever again. 1 Drink a month is plenty usually. 2. Loved the staff. Spoke to most we ran in to when time permitted. 3. A lot of activities.. with a good mix. 4. .Most of the casino is non-smoking 5. Jersey boys show was great as well as we enjoyed some other shows. 6. Loved the piano bar - forgot the bar name. Enjoyed the entertainment.. 7. Nice ship in great shape. Only damage i saw was just outside our balcany. Some edging missing but found another piece missing at end of our trip. ah well. :) 8. Found it pretty easy to board and debark the ship at the start/ending and at ports. We did take out suitcases with us on the last day. 9. Enjoyed the Local Bar and Grill. (open 24 hrs) - 1 floor above the atrium. Eat breakfast there a few times - small menu but had what we wanted and late night we stopped twice to enjoy their in bone wings. Recommend going to the handicap single bathrooms to get latex gloves to save you time trying to get your hands clean and not have the smell as well on your hands. The bummers: 1. Food just ok. Nothing to write home about. Had more downs that ups. 2. Wifi issues (probably spend an extra 6 hours the entire week with wifi issues), getting in line to ask for help. - I know.. we are to take a break from wifi but we are the odd-balls that need it a lot for work that we have to do sometimes and watch videos when we exercise. 3. There is no court for basketball/soccer/dodgeball which is a bummer for the kiddos.. instead you have the racing go carts.. Loved that they tried something new like the racing go carts but believe a needed in sports court would of been better. 4. Noise levels in room pretty high and mostly randomly but constant until most on the ship went to bed. Perhaps just our room placement. 5. I had to play $50 a hand to get the blackjack i like to play. 3 to 2 blackjack odds (not 6 to 5) and not a card shuffler machine that makes the cards shuffled back in. $100 table that dealer stays on soft 17s which is nice. 6. Some shows definitily not worth seeing. Havana and the Prohibition show you can skip. 7. Mixed drinks did not effect me. For something that does not drink much i would normally feel something after 1 mixed drink. Found that odd. Perhaps watered down. Not an expert. I did a get a martini on board and that did bring on the effects. Signing up/scheduling for shows / restaurants... if you did not get them done before hand, taking care of them on the ship was a breeze. Deck 6. Fill out a form of want you want to book and get in a short line. Seems they only allow around 20% of the seats booked online before the sale date but the rest of the seats can be booked up once onboard. - can always try to get in with no reservation . Did this a few times. Go Carts and Laser tag sign up was a bit hectic . Line never moved and finally a guest came down the line to let us know they are out of unlimited passes for sale and for quicker sign up to go to the touch screen monitors by the elevators and you can sign up for time slots on the touch screens. She was right. Was a breeze .We left the line and headed over to the stairs area on any floor ... really liked being able to do this. Just have your room key on you to insert to confirm purchase. Runs $9.95 each person each activities (race cars/laser tag) I believe that was the fee. If you really want the unlimited passes .. recommend you get on this line early / first thing. You can not sign up for the unlimited at the touchscreen systems and they have a limited amount. Runs $99 each / laser or race cars. But one time was enough for us. Go Cart Race Track - was fun to do it once ... not sure if ever would need to get a pass to do it unlimited. Some found hat and full helmet to be a bit much and hated it for that reason. Hard to pass the slow drivers so would recommend they keep the drivers experience in mind when they make the group. Believe up to 10 can go at once. We were a group of 8. If you want to speed and have fun that way and you are placed with 1 or a few that will not be driving fast you will come out feeling like this sucked. Only 1 place if you can find it to pass someone. Also.. if you feel that you will not like it, let me know know you might want to exit after a lap or two, My wife wanted to but they waved her to keep going around and not pull in to the pit. She was not happy about that. Recommend singing up to do this at after sundown. Laser Tag. Was down at our time slot. Found others there waiting over 90 mins when we arrive. So we never went back to give it a try. It is on the top level of the ship near the pool slides. Wifi Not so great. On Royal they have Voom that is amazing. You can use Netflix etc with never an issue. FaceTime with your friends etc. On NCL. We had a lot of issues. A lot of dead spots. Used wifi calling on our phone and had delays of people hearing us and dropped calls. Others complained as well and the line to the wifi support was long the first 2 days with only 1 guy at the desk and 1 gal helping as well people on the line when she could. Not sure why they did not spend some of the 1 billion $ on making the best wifi for the guests. I do like to work some when on vacation. Also the wifi packages are around twice the $ then royal Caribeans packages for less quality service. Bars/Drinks Plenty of bars on board. Plenty of choices. A lot more options over Royal C when it come to types of beer and drinks offered. You can not go 30 feet on non-stateroom floors without seeing a bar. So if you love to drink, this is a great cruise to do so. We had the unlimited package and water was not included. But the drinking water from the facet felt clean enough and the lead engineer told us about the purification system. With the drink package they charge you the automatic grutity per drink around .88 cents. Pool Not very big.. had 2 that we saw. .. one was more for the kids,, and the adults one found most just sitting on the edges around the pool. The hot tubs were small. We never reserved seats but found seats when needed. You see guests like to reserve seats. Once we moved things to lounge out and just figured if they come back we will get up.. they never came back while we were there. They do show on the big outdoor screen that they can remove things left over an 1 and you can pick them up at guest services. But doubt they did that. The pool water slide was great. Enjoyed it . Recommend you do this on in-port days when they open as the first day or two the lines are long. They do have one slide that you have to be over 90lbs and the floor drops and you hope you make it to the end. They have exits that open if you didn't .. Thought for sure i was going to make it. LOL Probably will not be on NCL again. We do have case number to see about getting a partial refund on the room we will see if anything happens with that .. if good news, i will update.

The Great Alaskan Cruise by Julcar25

Overall, I had a great time cruising to Alaska. My only regret was not booking an itinerary that included Fairbanks and/or Anchorage land tours.

We sailed Norwegian Bliss to... by grahamgnome

Sail date: /
Ship: Norwegian Bliss

We sailed Norwegian Bliss to Alaska and the only reason we didn’t spend more time wandering the ship was because we were in Alaska. The Bliss is a new ship, built for Alaskan cruising, with an observation lounge I wish every ship had. The new restaurants - Q for barbecue and Los Lobos for Mexican, were both tasty. Staff were excellent. We had an aft-facing balcony where we spent a lot of time, watching the scenery pass by. If you want to be up close and personal with a glacier, I recommend this cabin. We will be sailing again, in the Caribbean, mainly so we can actually see the ship.

Alaskan Cruise - Great Excursions, Bad Ship Experience by depietto

Sail date: / Traveled as: Couple
Ship: Norwegian Bliss / Destination: Alaska - Inside Passage

Felt like the staff just didn't care... I've taken Royal Caribbean and been treated like a valued guest and that wasn't true here at all. From guest services to the restaurant staff to the bar tenders.... just a different attitude. Felt like they didn't like their jobs. Staff was hurried and short and non-accommodating. It was just such a drastic difference than cruising with other lines. I wouldn't take Norwegian again. Alaska was great just go on another line... RC or Princess. I think it's ridiculous that my overall rating includes ports of call - Alaska was fantastic... Norwegian was not worth it!

9258 Beautifully decorated ship. ... by Steve41

Sail date: /
Ship: Norwegian Bliss

9258 Beautifully decorated ship. But needs to be longer, not just taller, and why did they get rid of the 3rd (center) elevators? By only going taller, they crowd more people into smaller spaces, which is not comfortable. Mel at the Japanese steak house is the most amazing live chef, I have ever seen! Italian restaurant is more a seafood restraint than Italian - they did not even offer chicken Parmesan.

This was my 2nd NCL... by arponsi

Sail date: /
Ship: Norwegian Bliss

This was my 2nd NCL cruise and my 6th cruise overall. Embarkation went relatively smoothly. Took about 25 minutes from curb to ship. My wife and I had a standard interior cabin. It was extremely functional but did lack storage space. There were absolutely no dresser/cabinet drawers for clothes storage, just one modest sized closet so my wife lived out of her suitcase. Make sure you don’t bring a jumbo suitcase that doesn’t fit under the bed, otherwise your space will decrease even more. There are two usb chargers by the bed that are convenient for charging phones/kindles/etc. Also included are the safe, phone and tv which were all functionally easy to navigate. The bathroom, unlike the bedroom, seemed to have a slightly better than average size feel with a glass shower that seemed slightly bigger than other showers I have had on cruises. For two people there was plenty of room for our toiletries. Due to our specialty dining package we were able to eat at most of the restaurants on the ship: Complimentary restaurants of Taste, Savor and Manhattan room are the Main Dining Rooms (MDRs) and are all similar in service and menus, just a little different ambiance. I found the service on par with what I have come to expect from NCL, friendly and professional but not overtly warm like other cruise lines. Unlike with a standard dining time, you end up getting different wait staff unless you specifically request someone. The freestyle dining is extremely convenient for two people but when you dine with more than 4 people I’d advise making reservations if you plan on eating during peak dinner times otherwise you could wait for 20-30 minutes for a table to open. The food at the MDRs was hit or miss, some great tasting options, some just ok and some blah. This isn’t a problem though because if you do not like a specific dish, you can always order a second option which the staff is happy to bring you. The Local is the 24 hour complimentary restaurant that serves pub style food. The food is ok and the menu is limited but serviceable. Service is again professional and friendly. The Garden Cafe (buffet) had plenty of food options but I didn’t find anything at the buffet that was spectacular. My favorite part of the buffet was the fact that they had multiple egg/omelet stations that would cook your eggs to order. The buffet crowds could be overwhelming during peak food times and made it difficult at times to find a seat. If you get desperate you can ask staff and they will assist you in finding a place (we needed to do this once). Observation lounge also had a mini buffet which was usable for snacks. We were also able to try Le Bistro, Cagneys, and La Cucina as part of the dining package. You MUST make reservations before you set sail or immediately upon arrival at the ship or you will probably get locked out. Food quality in the specialty restaurants on NCL never disappoints. It also shows that you need to pay for quality when you can taste the difference in the tiramisu from La Cucina compared to the MDRs. A few critiques for the specialty restaurants compared to my other NCL experience 2 years ago on the Escape. Service was not even close to as good. At Le Bistro the waitress actually pushed for extra gratuity (which I always give but didn’t appreciate it being forced). At Cagneys the person in charge with wine disappeared on us twice to the point I had to ask for him to be hunted down. I think one time that he disappeared it was due to the fact that he personally had to find glasses to serve dessert wine so it wasn’t necessarily his fault, but whatever the reason, they were uncommonly large wait times. Finally in La Cucina our server did actually disappear to the point I had to ask for help from someone else regarding closing out the check and storing the purchased wine during dinner. To summarize, food quality 5 out of 5, service 2 out of 5. Maybe we just had an off week with the staff. We also tried Cocos. Espressos and desserts were both good and the servers were extremely warm and friendly. Although not an extremely busy place, if you want a quality dessert or espresso it is worth the experience. Entertainment and Activities I find NCL does a fantastic job with quality but there can be a problem due to crowds. If you don’t make reservations when you first get on the ship (or before) you will miss out on a lot. We didn’t get to experience the racetrack or laser tag as they were booked solid after day 2. The two shows (again make reservations) of Havana and Jersey Boys were fantastic quality, just a little below broadway quality. The Beatles show I enjoyed and thought they did the band justice. When they play at the Cavern Club, get their 30 minutes early otherwise you will not get a seat. One person in our group has special needs and went to a bunch of the ship activities (trivia, dance parties, game shows) and the crew was fantastic for them. The person always felt welcomed and involved. It was a pleasure to see the person so happy. The crew and cruise director were amazing. Although this was an Alaskan Cruise I must say during Caribbean cruises this ship will have the same problem as the Escape with deck space/pool space. With the Haven taking up a good piece of the ship, the rest of the pool deck will be overwhelmed on Caribbean sea days. I highly suggest if you find crowds and noise to be a problem to purchase a thermal suite pass. Observation Lounge I must say was a fantastic outside the box idea that works. Bliss takes up prime cabin space to dedicate a huge area of the 15th floor to an observation lounge with food and drinks served. People play cards and board games, listen to live music, read books and fall asleep in this relaxing public area. It was always in use. Thermal suite! My favorite part about NCL. For $200 a person pre cruise you can purchase a week pass at the thermal suite. It gives you access to a quite area with floor to ceiling windows across the back of the ship, your own hot tub, your own heated pool, cushioned and heated chairs, sauna, steam room, salt room, cold room, etc. It makes my cruise. As for the Casino, NCL finally solved the problem plaguing all cruise ships, the smoke emanating into the public areas. On the Bliss the smoking section is completely sealed off in its own room and even walking by the room itself the smell of smoke is minimal. Fantastic job. Truthfully the only area with a smell problem to public walking areas is in 6,7,8 by the restaurant Ocean Blue which for some reason doesn’t have a solid wall so the whole area smells like fish. Ports - Alaskan Cruise was definitely unique with their ports and what you experience. Also you must have more clothes for this cruise then almost any other because of the different environments. You need shorts and short sleeves in Seattle, bathing suits if you want to try the pool or have a thermal suite pass, pants and short sleeve depending on the weather, long sleeve shirts and jackets for some areas in Alaska. Just something to keep in mind. You will get wet in Ketchikan as it will always rain but it was not a heavy rain for us. More of a misty rain. We only did the lumberjack show which was fun. That said any excursion I heard was quality, just can be pricey. Juneau was my favorite port on the trip. So many bald eagles on the trip from town to Mendenhall glacier. The glacier was pretty cool to see but the star of the trip was the waterfall which you can practically walk up to and almost touch (1-2 mile hike). The waterfall makes you feel how powerful Mother Nature can be. If you feel up to it, you can pay to be flown on top of the glacier. Everyone who did raved about the experience. In Skagway we did the train excursion. It was an amazing experience to take a train from sea level to 3000 feet in the air to the summit. In July it was cold at the summit and it was pretty amazing to see the walking path miners took to the summit and picture how they survived. Victoria was a pretty town. Ship gets there late (4 PM) so although the souvenir shops are open, not everything stays open for the cruise tourists. It is worth taking a walk around or going to the gardens. To summarize my experience, I found the room small but serviceable, food quality ok to great but food service below average at the specialty restaurants, and entertainment great but you need to make reservations otherwise you will lose out on experiences.

Bliss wrap-up by middlebroga

Sail date: / Traveled as: Couple
Ship: Norwegian Bliss / Destination: Alaska - Inside Passage

Embarkation in Seattle a breeze..arrived at 10 am Used the early bag drop-off and checked in right away. got on-board about 11 am or so and our cabin was ready for our things around 1. Cabin was clean..comfortable and big enough to suit our needs for the week. All service personnel were friendly. courteous and professional especially Christian..the bartender at skylight bar ( order a bloody white Russian and see his reaction). Go-karts were fun but staff seem a bit unorganized (took almost an hour and a half to ride even though we had reservations). Laser tag was awesome and worth the $5..As for dining..Buffet can be a little tough to find tables during peak times..My suggestion would be walk around figure out what you want to eat...then when you find a table one of you goes up while the other stays at the table and guarantees it will be there when you return. Usually better chance of finding tables outside. Main dining rooms were about the same as the Escape..great food ant excellent service. Cagney's...Q...and Los Lobos a must for specialty dining. As with our other Cruises we had passes for Mandarin spa, again, awesome place to relax and unwind after a day at port (or a few morning drinks).. Jersey Boys was an awesome show...Havana was good...great music..and costumes all though the story line didn't flow smoothly but worth the 1 hour or so. The observation lounge was nice..great place to get coffee in the mornings and enjoy the view, though I did hear it was crowded during the trip up Endicott arm to see Dawes glacier ( we had a balcony so that's where we stayed during that trip). As for the ports...Ketchikan..Easy access to the ship as it docked right in the middle of the shopping district..easy walking both from and to ship. light rain gear recommended. Juneau..Get off early and take the free bus into town..It drops off and Picks up right at the base of Mt. Roberts tramway which is right next to the shopping district Wish the ship spent more time in this port..Skagway...opt for the shuttle as it's a pretty good walk from the dock into downtown..$2 each way or $5 all day on and off ( 4 different stops). Victoria...Well...beautiful city..not really prepared for the influx of so many people at one time (long lines waiting for shuttle bus and taxi)..my suggestion..wait in the Taxi line..$10 per taxi one way and it will drop you off downtown. Ship docks at 4 pm and by the time you get to the waterfront most thing are shutting down and closing up all though the tourist shops stay open for you to get souvenirs. Debarkation wasn't bad at all..we had the 7:45 am tags..and we were off the ship and at our hotel by Seatac at 9:30 am. Overall a great cruise and one we wouldn't hesitate to take again!
