First Time Fabulous

Room Type: Balcony

We took our first cruise on Holland America's newest ship the Noordam in April 2006 to the North Caribbean and all we can say is when and where are we going next? Having never been on a cruise before, we were apprehensive about spending 10 days aboard a ship but I can honestly say the time flew by. The ship was immaculate, the crew could not have been more friendly and courteous, there were plenty of activities to keep you busy and the food was absolutely delicious. We traveled with three other couples and the ship was big enough to have private times apart but no so big that you lost one another completely. We had a veranda balcony stateroom and it was quite roomy, nicely decorated and had plenty of storage. We often had all 8 of us on the balcony or in the room without a problem. Two of our travel mates had inside cabins and one of theirs was a bit small but both also had sufficient storage space. We booked through along with the other couple and we both were very pleased with all of the arrangements. We were well prepared by the time we were ready to Board. They were able to accommodate our request to have the rooms nearby (we were next door to one another) and we both got a free upgrade to the Pinnacle Room which we were very glad we took advantage of it. The food was extraordinary and would have definitely been worth the extra charge to upgrade. There was plenty to see and do in most of the ports and we had sufficient time to explore and shop! We particularly liked St. Maarten. The ship had so many amenities we really did not have enough time to take advantage of all of them. Overall, the shows were good, but the Vegas Style productions were the most enjoyable. My only complaint (if you can call it that) was having the late night dinner seating every night. I would have preferred having a choice. Our cruise had a nice mix of people young and old and Club HAL did a great job keeping the younger travelers busy. For anyone out there considering a first-tine cruise, all I can say is what are you waiting for?

Pros: The Service

Cons: Same Dinner Seating Every Night

Tortola, British Virgin Islands
We took a two hour tour of the Island and it is quite lovely. The view from Sage Mountain was breathtaking.
Don't Miss: Sage Mountain
San Juan, Puerto Rico
We only had a short time at this port but we did take a bus tour which gave a nice overview of the city.
Don't Miss: Old San Juan
Grand Turk Island
We did not explore here. We just enjoyed relaxing by the pool at Margaritaville. This port will be much nicer when the shopping area is completed.

5 cruise ships were in port at the same time so we did not get to enjoy the shopping there. TWe opted for an island tour and the countryside is very scenic. Sapphire Beach and Magens Bay had the bluest water I've ever seen.

This was a gorgeous Island. Excellent shopping and restaurants. The view from the Fort is spectacular. We visited friends at the Divi resort and did not want to leave.
