I wouldn't cruise Holland America again.

Sail Date: January 01, 2008

Traveled As: Large Group

Room Type: Suite

This ship had an outbreak of norovirus previous week which continued the week of this cruise. No hot tubs, spa, self serve buffet for the first 4 days of this 10 day trip and you didn't receive any type of credit for these non-services which were paid for in the price of this cruise. The special amenities of suites was non-existent. No welcome fruit basket. No special concierge, etc. 3/4 of the people on this ship were 70+ and either using wheelchairs or scooters.

Pros: The staff tried but were obviously overwhelmed

Cons: Paying for suite with no visible upgrades

Recommends Noordam? No.

Food and Dining
The food was good, but the lines were very long. This was due to not being able to serve yourself at the Lido buffet. This caused the Vista dining room to be overwhelmed and understaffed. Wait time to receive meal at breakfast 45 minutes. The Vista dining room is only open 1 hour for lunch. That is not enough time to serve 1800+ guests.
Cabin / Stateroom
We booked a suite which gave us an additional shower stall and a larger bathroom, but everything else was much the same as a verandah. Save your money. We were notified 2 times that they would be cleaning the balcony's but they never did. The furniture and railings were covered with sea salt the entire cruise. You had to stand up to see the view as the plexiglass railings were filthy.
Ship Quality
Service and Staff
They tried. I think there were more crew sick on this ship as they were obviously understaffed. They were unable to provide any attentiveness.
activities pretty much didn't exist. Besides the bingo games & a 15 minutes trivia game.
Philipsburg, St. Maarten
There is plenty to do on this island from shopping, beaches to dining.
Don't Miss: Orient Beach
Road Town, Tortola, B.V.I.
Nothing but roosters walking around. No shops were open. We docked here on Sunday.
Don't Miss: Stay on the ship
Charlotte Amalie, St. Thomas
Great views. Took an excursion to St. John's Trunk Bay. Fabulous
Don't Miss: St. John
San Juan, Puerto Rico
Once you've seen Old San Juan there really isn't much else to do.
Grand Turk Island
This port was very pretty. Not much to do but shop & spend time at Margueritaville unless you book a tour.
Don't Miss: Jimmy Buffet's Margueritaville
