We could not wait to take this 14 day holiday cruise. It was something that we looked forward to all year. We boarded the ship from NY on 12/22/07 with high expectations of what was to come. Once on the ship we went to our room and it was clean and set up. Our cabin steward was never around, and then it took him over 7 hours one day to clean our room. Not to mention the ship was not kept clean. I can't tell you how many times we had to walk around plates and dishes and other things in the hallways that did not belong there. A good majority of the passengers were VERY rude. Which I know isn't the fault of Holland America but some of the staff was rude as well. The food was really not that good. In the lido deck a few times the beef tasted like chicken. Some of the shows were a big let down as well.

The quality of the food was well below what we have had before with Holland America. On Christmas night we were unable to go to the formal dinner because of people in our party feeling under the weather so we went up to the Lido deck for dinner and 1 thing was open. We were also told that if we wanted room service it was going to take over two hours. Also in the morning they would close half of the Lido deck at 10am to start setting up for lunch even though it was supposed to stay open until 10:30. The lines were so long and we even ended up with other peoples orders since they were just trying to rush the food out. Also on the Lido deck there was a leak and it ended up to where it was going all over the floor which many people almost slipped and a few did. You have people who have trouble walking and to have that just made for a dangerous setting.

In this area it was mixed. Since the cruise director was excellent. Also the DJ was amazing. We didn't care for some of the shows at all. A few we walked out of because of how bad they were. The best show was the Noordam superstar. I think that was because of the judges, the DJ and the passengers that were entered into that.
Service and Staff

The only reason I say average is because we had some really good experiences with certain members of the staff. The front desk was really helpful. Our cabin steward was horrible. He would take forever to clean up and turn down the room. The laundry staff was terrible. It would take 4 days before we were getting our clothes back when it stated it would take 24-48 hours. That was with us calling the front desk for them to call so we could get it back.

The ship is large in size. It was not kept clean. The decor was okay but nothing too exciting.

The size of the room is pretty large if you have a balcony. The beds are really comfortable.
