Review summary

1st time sailing on a New Year’s Eve cruise, but not the first time sailing with Royal Caribbean. They always seem to be able deliver a quality experience (98%) of the time. Occasionally we run into a hiccup, nothing’s perfect, but we typically feel our cruises are about as close as it can get.

Miami embarkation was slow and seemed delayed compared to other ports (Port Everglades and Canaveral). Arrived around 11:00 am and didn’t start until almost 12:00 pm.

Ship experiences

Food and Dining

5 out of 5
New Year’s Eve dinner included surf and turf (lobster and filet mignon) or just lobster (double tails). Buffet dinner the last night was a seafood extravaganza, awesome selection.

Pool Bar

5 out of 5

Manager Fernando Ferreira had it all under control and ran a tip-top staff.

Onboard Activities

Sports Court

Flowrider was decent, not as good as other ships in the fleet. Water was thin in some areas that was corrected by staff adding water to the system. Sport staff was excellent as usual

Service and Staff

5 out of 5
Our My Time waiter Andy and his assistant Ahmad were superb. Sport staff - Vinicius and Tatiana were awesome (as were they all)

Cabin / Stateroom

5 out of 5
Virtual Balcony; had real time feed on screen so it provided views of the outside from an interior stateroom. Would book this type of cabin again especially since it was considerably less expensive than an actual ocean view cabin.

Ports of call

Costa Maya (Mahahual), Mexico

2nd time visiting Mahahual, this time we remained at the pier enjoying the bars and shops.
