Royal Caribbean is the way to go!

Sail Date: September 16, 2006

Reviewed: 6 years ago

Traveled As: Family w/young children

Room Type: Suite

We were very impressed with the ship. It is breathtaking when you first board and look over the Royal Promenade.

Pros: Ship's elegance, atmosphere, crew was outstanding

Cons: Crowded, small pools

George Town, Grand Cayman
Looked just like Key West. Seven-mile beach was pretty but no shade or palms. Our kids loved the Pirate Ship Adventure.
Don't Miss: Not much to do here. If you have kids, do the Pirate Ship Adventure.
Labadee (Cruiseline Private Island)
A must see! I thought this would be the least liked port of call, but it turned out to be our favourite. Walk past the colorfully fenced kids area for the least crowded beach. BBQ buffet was outstanding. Labadee was gorgeous and unspoiled.
Don't Miss: It's not that big. You really can't miss anything.
Ocho Rios, Jamaica
Had been here before - 10 years ago. Changed for the worse. The Dunn's River Falls were fun but crowded. Got duped into a group cab ride to and from that only left 2 hours at the Falls, which wasn't enough. Walk past the uniformed girls organizing the group cabs and grab you're own cab. When you're good and ready to leave the Falls, there are a zillion cab drivers ready to take you back. We didn't know this. We thought, as everyone else did, that the group cab was our only option to get to the Falls if you didn't pay for a ship excursion.
Don't Miss: Downtown jerk chicken/pork open-air restaurant and grocery store. Not a great port for shopping.
Cozumel, Mexico
Super disappointed w/Cozumel. We love Mexico but I guess it's the Pacific side of Mexico that we love. Got a cabbie for $50 who took us to San Gervasio ruins. Interesting but hot. Shopping was terribly expensive and most vendors were rude, going as far as asking my husband what he makes in a day and badgering him about not buying something our son was looking at. We picked out a few things from another vendor's store and negotiated an agreeable price, but when we went to pay she wanted 40% more if we used our credit card. Meanwhile, she had stickers all over the front door of the credit cards that she accepts. We finally gave up the shopping and went for some good Mexican food.
Don't Miss: The open-air restaurant across from the Carnival Cruiseline port has great conch ceviche and tacos!
