Like I said the cruise line did not communicate the need for a pre-cruise COVID test; thank god we decided to go to the ship early. Also, they never sent any notice that the cruise would not allow you to leave the ship at any port without buying an excursion. Honestly I think they should have offered something in return for this lack of experience or let you know and allow for a cancellation even if it was a credit for a future trip.
Embarkation

We didn't get the memo about having to have a test upon arrive so had to take a hour round trip taxi to a hospital on the other side of Barcelona to get a 15-min antigen test (150.00 euro extra) just to return and be tested by the cruise ship inside the terminal. WTF
Ship experiences
Food and Dining
3 out of 5
The food was better then my last cruise I took a few years ago on Carnival but I wouldn't call it anything more then average. I hate to sound negative but if I went to a restaurant and was served the same food I wouldn't return. The service on the other hand was very good, I would definitely say I felt the employees were there to make every effort for us to enjoy our cruise.
Onboard Activities
3 out of 5
I would give this category an average rating as there wasn't really any activities other then the amenities of the pool, casino, fitness center, etc. Especially since you were not able to leave the ship without purchasing an excursion which we didn't realize until we were already on board.
Entertainment
3 out of 5
I was not impressed about the stage show and I wouldn't blame the cast as much as the directors of what seemed like a very simple task. On the other hand the musicians in the bars through out the ship were very good though.
Service and Staff

I felt they made every effort to make us happy!!!!

Cabin / Stateroom

I don't understand in today's technology why they cant have a flat screen TV and entertainment selections like they have on planes or you can get when staying at most hotels. Otherwise it was a nice room, the water pressure was amazing just wished the shower was a bit larger for us hefty
Americans.
Ship tip
COMMUNICATION BEFORE THE TRIP. When I was searching for any information I should know before the trip because of the COVID Omicron restrictions all I got from MSC was that it was two days out and I could no longer check in online. That I was set to cruise and they would see me soon UGH
We decided on this cruise for two reasons: 1. Cinque Terre and the ancient path I took 20 years ago and wanted to share with my partner. The excursion to the towns which didn't include the trail or allow you to even go on it due to the restrictions we knew nothing about was canceled and so we purchased an excursion to Porto Vernere which was nice but not what we were taking the cruise for.
Glad you enjoyed it. I’m not sure what was communicated for European cruises, but I am booked on the Meraviglia next month and the Covid test requirements are plainly listed on the website, when booking and in the email notifications.
