Incredible - FANTASTIC 3 night cruise

Sail Date: April 06, 2012

Reviewed: 4 years ago

Traveled As: Couple

Room Type: Oceanview

Ship had an older feel, but definitely a nice ship with a fabulous crew that will do ANYTHING to make your stay comfortable. Very well maintained, two pools and two jacuzzis. BIG climbing wall. Lots of amenities for an inexpensive cruise.

Pros: Excellent value cruise, fabulous service, two full days in two different ports

Cons: Slightly rough seas the last night transiting home

Recommends Monarch of the Seas (RETIRED)? Yes!

Ship Quality
Very high quality ship, lots of dining options. No high tech frills, but our stateroom had a small cable LCD TV and phone. All areas of the ship were kept very clean, lots of shopping, drinking and entertainment options. Plenty to do at all hours.
Food and Dining
Fantastic food, but an ever better wait staff. Our waiter Muthu was absolutely worth the price of admission himself. His assistant waiter sang Happy Birthday to my girlfriend in chinese on her birthday. If you don't like it, they'll bring you something else. Apart from the main dining room, there was a midnight buffet one night, all day dining in the 11th deck restaurant, and a more upscale dining experience with sushi/filet mignon style meals at Jade restaurant. While it was nice to sit on the 12th deck forward, the meals in the main dining room were of such high quality that Jade isn't really necessary, despite their VERY reasonable prices.
Cabin / Stateroom
Great quality and great cabin steward. Mattress was a little firm, but we didn't spend all that much time in the room anyway - and when we did, we were exhausted so it didn't matter.
Service and Staff
Not a single bad staff experience the entire weekend. Our cabin steward took care of us, even when I put my luggage out late on the last night of the cruise. Our wait staff in the restaurant was fantastic. Planning shore excursions was a breeze.
Entertainment
Solid variety, but not overwhelming which was nice. A dozen or so options for shore activities in Nassau and then in Cococay. We did the Seahorse Snorkel in Nassau (Note: don't expect to see seahorses, it's the name of the boat!), but well worth the price. Then we did the Kayaking trip in Cococay, which was a great 1.5 hours in the morning followed by a fun day at the beach. Plenty of shopping at cococay, since we spent almost the whole day snorkeling in Nassau.
