Review SummaryOur expectations were not met on The Monarch. Having sailed w/ Royal in the past and having a wonderful experience we were very disappointed; actually shocked with the lack of level of service, cleanliness & food. Numerous crew members we encountered seemed bothered, short or just down right rude when asked a question. Made no difference if we were in a gift shop, pool deck, or walking throughout the ship. It was very apparent many crew members were not happy about being on that ship and it carried through to our experience. Although The Monarch is a smaller & older ship, it did not relect the Royal standard whatsoever nor did it compare to a competive cruise line of same size ship. Food portions in dining room were small, meats were tough; felt rushed through dinner by waiter.
Could smell the bathrooms on several decks; at times even on cabin level decks. Pool deck bathroom stunk all the time! Floors in cafe were dirty even during off hours. Also noticed various crew members outfits were dirty. I'm sure this happens by the end of their shift but certainly shouldn't look like that at beginning of shift.
Cabin was smaller than we expected based on a previous cruise w/ an ocean view room. Couldn't hear announcements on speaker while in cabin.
Also there was a large group booking of 'Fifteen' year old girls from Argentina who monopolized the pool, hot tubs & pool deck daily. They were continually very inconsiderate of other guests on board. No fault of the crew but on top of everything else, contributed to a poor experience.
Finally, the ports of call ~ Coco Cay was nice; not much to do but was nice. Nassau was dirty & scarey; locals are very aggressive towards visitors.
The Monarch needs a major overhaul ~ ship & crew. We do not recommend The Monarch of the Seas and will not be sailing on it ever again.
*** Final Foot Note - We emailed Royal customer service upon returning home and to date have not rec'd a response.
